Judge grants our request to temporarily halt USDA office closures, including those in the U.S. Forest Service, saying the agency has “almost certainly been violating” Congressional restrictions on use of funds. spklr.io/63328EVVIq

For months, I’ve been raising the alarm about the loss of staff at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and how it is imperiling their work protecting our wildlife and public lands. In December, 25% of the agency was gone. Now, it’s nearly 40%. But FWS still refuses to address the staffing crisis.

My guess is that the article was largely written and edited by AI.

Fielding questions re: this article w/bizarre factual errors. First, there's no "Montecito County" in CA. Second, 2 fires are actually in *Monterey,* & 3rd in *Mendocino*. Third, 60k ac have *not* burned in either fictional Montecito nor real Mendocino.🤨

There were lots of “suggestions” (phrased as orders) that were requests for additional analyses but with zero context or justification. Things we could do but without any explanation why we’d need to.

Probably more helpful to think of them not so much as “Canadian wildfires” but rather “climate change wildfires currently consuming Canada”

It’s powerful to come out and say, “We invited the president on but he refused to answer questions beyond the scope of Graham’s death and our policy is not allow guests to set ground rules for interviews.”

He will always be remembered as a corrupt coward

Also just thinking about different Mitch McConnell’s legacy would be if he’d voted for impeachment and conviction. Had a chance to have a right side of history last roll of the dice and chickened out

The assumption that Trump would even designate a successor is open to question.

What Platner is doing right now is trying to ignite an intra-party nuclear exchange, so that he can tell the Maine Democrats that THE PEOPLE will not accept anything but him or his designated successor. This is the kind of thing Trump would do.

Conservative and Liberal Americans need to clearly understand what happened. The President attempted to give himself power to seize and deport several million United States citizens, directly violating the Constitution he swore to preserve. Only six on the Court barely stopped him.

The 3 dissents are extremely troubling. And it shows that the conservative idea of “originalism” is about as phony as “states’ rights” Alito really straining to ignore the text here.

A team of biologists recently counted 30 of the rare trout in Topanga Creek — plus 21 babies. “These fish continue to amaze me,” said Kyle Evans of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. My latest: www.latimes.com/environment/...

latimes.comSanta Monica Mountains’ last steelhead trout survived the Palisades fire — and even had babiesScientists feared the Santa Monica Mountains’ last endangered steelhead trout were wiped out by the Palisades fire. Then, they found them alive in Topanga Creek.

There’s still a lot I don’t understand about this. Is distributing a publication really a violation of a code of conduct? Who actually called security? Was their behavior more disruptive than it’s being described here?

"911, what's your emergency?" "Hello, Police? Yeah, our highest award recipient is at our meeting handing out copies of an article that we published. And uh....we....well....shit, nevermind." (gift link)

I’ve been saying we ought to use the “bootlicker” insult more often in times like these.

Philip Bump@pbump.com

The absolute bottom of the journalistic barrel is people in the media chiding Scott Pelley for having the gall to confront Bilton. If you want a job licking boots, become a bootlicker. You’re not a journalist.

So blatantly stupid.

A heartfelt thank you to federal scientists of the USA. The authors of this piece reflect on the massive losses that occurred in 2025 — 10,109 PhDs in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics and health — either voluntarily or involuntarily. 17% of the workforce gone in a single year!
