Virginia. Nevada. Idaho. Missouri: These 4 states have abortion ballot measures. In another 7, voters will weigh in on LGBTQ+ rights, especially re trans kids in sports. In GA's governor's race, a rare blue wave could liberalize state abortion laws. We're watching them all. Follow along with us.

New from @natasharoy.bsky.social: What 'Love is Blind' cast gets right—and wrong—on abortion
Love Is Blind rarely pushes back on abortion misinformation. This season, a cast member did. John Shannon asked why anyone would have an abortion at six months “because you just, like, never got around to it.” Sarah Williams, a health-care manager, set him straight. By @natasharoy.bsky.social.

I love editing young reporters. In this collab w/ @fullerproject.org, Maia Capuano asked her fellow UGA students about the GA governor's race. Turns out, they're not much focused on the remote possibility that a Dem wave could overturn the state's abortion ban. They have more kitchen table concerns.
As part of our Campus Dispatch series, we collaborated with @fullerproject.org to ask University of Georgia students which issues matter most to them this election. Affordability is taking priority over abortion for Georgia’s student voters, despite the strict ban there and in surrounding states.

Voters in seven states will weigh more than half a dozen ballot measures on LGBTQ+ rights, many aimed at trans youth. In Washington, where a sports ban is on the ballot, the state’s school sports group knows of about ten trans athletes among 200,000+ students. By @19thnews.org. buff.ly/1lw3LSp

Breast cancer awareness month usually comes with pink ribbons and mammogram reminders. And that's all well and good. But the reality is that while a breast cancer diagnosis is life-changing, it's often just the start of a longer journey that's often invisible. rewirenewsgroup.com/2026/10/19/a...
What happens after active treatment for breast cancer ends? Surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy can take a serious toll on survivors’ physical and emotional health. A growing number of providers are working to improve follow-up care. Story from @cameronoakes.bsky.social.

Poignant story from @cameronoakes.bsky.social this morning on the challenges breast cancer survivors face in managing post-treatment care with primary care docs, gynecologists, and other non-oncology physicians. “It’s not just enough to be cured,” one doctor said. rewirenewsgroup.com/2026/10/19/a...

I'm currently in the lead by 3 points, but a podcast by a bank is closing in on me. I'm not kidding. I don't mind losing to another Black podcaster or to Peabody Award winning NPR producers. But lose to a bank? Please don't let me lose to a bank. Vote now. Vote again! STUFF THE BALLOTS.

Abortion is on the ballot in Nevada. If passed next month, Question 6 would add reproductive rights to the state constitution. Ahead of the vote Las Vegas reporter Jason Collins asked a doctor, researcher, and activists about the state of abortion care in Nevada—and how it’s changed since Roe fell.

The Comstock Act sat asleep for a century. Now anti-abortion groups want an 1873 anti-obscenity law championed by a man who hoarded dildos—yes really!—to ban abortion nationwide. All it takes is an AG willing to enforce it and five justices willing to let him. New Baby Boom! Lawyered. Out now.

Consent isn’t complicated. If they don’t say yes, don’t. If they can’t say yes, don’t. And if you see someone being harmed, don’t just watch. Step in or get help. Here’s how to start teaching this to your kids now, so they carry it to college.
While we await a federal ruling on a potential telehealth abortion ban, anti-abortion activists are preparing plans for laws that would require women to go to a doctor's office, have an ultrasound, or wait before receiving the abortion pills. From @stateline.org.
Ohio. North Carolina. Michigan. All three states have open supreme court seats on the ballot this November—and whoever wins will rule on abortion access and trans rights for years. These races matter. Rewire News Group partnered with @us.theconversation.com on this explainer. Here's what's at stake.

Don’t sleep on the judicial races in the 2026 midterms: As @rebouche.bsky.social writes, thanks to SCOTUS, state supreme court judges are increasingly tasked with deciding your fundamental rights. 60-plus seats are up for election.

New Baby Boom! Lawyered episode, “What the Hell Is Fetal Personhood?” is out now.
Most women will go through menopause, yet fewer than 4,000 physicians are certified by the Menopause Society. @jweisswolf.bsky.social's new book, out today, argues that's no accident. It's a policy failure.

My perimenopause and I loved chatting with Jennifer Weiss-Wolf about her new book, When In Menopause. It's out today! Weiss-Wolf believes that women are people whose dignity and wellbeing matter (radical!)--and that in healthy democracy, that fact makes menopause a public policy matter.
Daycare for two kids costs more than the median annual rent in 47 states. Nearly 60% of Gen Z voters want more federal spending on childcare, more than any other age group, per a new @19thnews.org and YouGov poll.

There isn't a single trans woman in the WNBA. In 2024, the NCAA estimated fewer than 10 of its 510,000 athletes were trans—about 0.002%, or 1 in 51,000. Yet trans athletes are a defining culture war issue of the 2026 midterms. It's a manufactured panic, writes @angryblacklady.blacksky.app.

"This is a ginned up trans panic, brought to you by Republicans who know that if you can manipulate public opinion on the culture war issue du jour, you can distract people from the economic issues that actually matter to them: outrageous gas prices and barely affordable groceries."
