Gut punch of a story about an Amazon engineer who trusted ChatGPT-4o to manage and reduce her seizure med dosages. You'd hope someone who made it into a top engineering position would have known the limits of AI circa May 2024

The Danse Macabre was a Middle Ages art style that depicted dead people from many social classes dancing in a graveyard or mimicking human habits. It represented how death eventually comes to everyone. Such dances of death were believed to happen in graveyards on Halloween.

I was in Devon with friends over the weekend so no hobby but with a bit of work today, I’ve managed to get 2 of the 15mm jungle huts pretty much finished. Just need to base them now. The other three are all but there as well. #15mm#spreadthelard#wargaming#terrain#CoC
This is vital. Writing helps us think. So many students are saying they turn to LLMs because they don’t know what to say, and need to hear that not knowing is normal as one starts to write.
Do you need to know what you think before you start writing?
Not necessarily, argues historian Lynn Hunt. In a 2010 #AHAPerspectives essay, Hunt explores how the act of writing itself generates new ideas and why getting words on the page is essential to the thinking process.
Although the Ottomans quickly rebuilt their fleet after the Battle of Lepanto, recruiting enough rowers proved more difficult than replacing ships.
The state orders to the officials in charge reveals the increasing level of pressure.

Trump says he might not continue the Iran war if Bibi loses. So if this war is about stopping Iran’s nuclear programs, why does it depend on Netanyahu staying in power? His own words suggest the bomb was the excuse—and Bibi’s political survival was the real objective.

Raskin: "When historians look back on this miserable period of our history, they might say that the first problem was disregarding all those women who told us back in 2016 that they had been sexually harassed or assaulted by Donald Trump."
27 October 939
King Æthelstan died. He was the son of Edward the Elder and King of the English from 927 to 939. Historians view him as the first King of England and one of the greatest Anglo-Saxon kings. He never married, had no children and was succeeded by Edmund.

Speech by #KennyO'Brien at Byron Festival is an absolute cracker. Read it below. MP's will deny it but #democracy in Australia is in serious decline and not just in #Parliament. It is hugely aided by mainstream & social media irresponsibility.
Kerry O’Brien:What’s left of the democracy we thought we had? In the eyes of many Australians, government is a hollowed-out husk of what it once was, with limited will and capacity to plan for, let alone exercise, a measure of sovereign control over technology..

"The report found Israeli authorities and forces had continued to 'commit genocidal acts' even after the so-called ceasefire in Gaza, 'with the intent to destroy the Palestinian people'."
No surprise that this got hardly any mainstream coverage. #GazaGenocidewww.nine.com.au/world-news/m...
Hey Axios, the “model” didn’t do this, the person who told it do this, did this.
We are facing a massive propaganda campaign to get us to believe that there is no one to blame when AI tools are used to commit crimes.
That’s simply untrue and irresponsible “reporting”. People do this deliberately.
Can we stop with the model did this or that? They did the same thing with the Medicare one.
Let's be extremely clear, people did this, not models. They are not sentient.
A person somewhere gave these agents a task, and they set out to complete it.
The people are responsible.
"Anthropic model accessed voter information"
Yes the info is publicly available (for a fee) but "the model bypassed a paywall in accessing the information, according to Georgia officials and Anthropic."

We keep telling the government - we don't want automated robo-debt, or data centres everywhere, or aged-care assessment by algorithm, or non-professional NDIS decisions. Employ real people. Pay real wages. Fix hospitals & schools. Tax the squillionaires & giant companies. Can't be any clearer.
Older people have been saying this for months. Labor's automation of aged care assessments has been a disaster, under-assessing need and priority, denying care and driving up waitlists.
It's past time to bin the whole thing and put humans back in charge of decision-making.
Segal’s role ( which she is getting paid an obscene amount of money for) should include a trip to Gaza to experience the horror of genocide we are exposed to every day streamed into our homes & then report back to ‘her’ Jewish community
Shoebridge rips into Jillian Segal over her false claims at the antisemitism RC on the Gaza death toll & asks what she has to say now that the UN has called her out
Segal says her role is to give views of the Jewish community
Shoebridge “Your role is to give truthful evidence”💥
#OnThisDay: Alfred the Great died on 27 October 899. Pictured is the stunning Alfred Jewel, which you may recognise from our avatar. It has been dated to the late 9th century, in the reign of Alfred the Great, and is inscribed "AELFRED MEC HEHT GEWYRCAN", meaning "Alfred ordered me made".
7-year-old Jouri Islam Al-Soufi was one of at least 5 Palestinians Israel killed in Gaza on Monday.
Israel has killed over 1559 people in Gaza during the 'ceasefire', but according to United States, European Union etc this doesn't break the ceasefire.
Only the deaths of Israelis would.
