I don't know who needs to hear this, but if your kitchen does not have a proper extraction hood you're doing it wrong. Especially if you cook on gas. Because if you have one of those re-circulation hoods, you're keeping all the moisture from cooking inside, and are you really replacing that filter?

Today I found out OpenAI API credits expire... great, and the minimum to up the credit is $5. For a quick test that's not worth $5 to me

Ten years ago today, @nytimes.com broke the story about my ten-year, 13-book, multi-million dollar contract with Tor Books. Today I look back on the contract, how it's going for us, why it isn't actually done yet, and where things go from here (and for how long): whatever.scalzi.com/2025/05/24/a...

whatever.scalzi.comAbout That Deal, Ten Years OnTen years ago today, the New York Times published the story about me getting a 10-year, 13-book contract with Tor Books, along with $3.4 million advance. And as it is, in fact, the tenth anniversar…

Anyone else notice no one can keep appointments lately? At least half the appointments I make get rescheduled. No matter if it's a job application or something personal, it's all across the board

Been job hunting for months, and ghosting is way more common than before. Why? Ignoring candidates only hurts your reputation. If you reject me (with feedback), I might refer someone else. Ghost me? I won’t. Just send a response. It’s not hard. Don’t ghost! It’s rude and bad for business.

One of those days where the brain just doesn't want to write correctly.. I just wrote "Focus" as "Phocus" twice in a few minutes....

I've been laid off... Yep, it happened to me, due to factors outside my control, I am looking for a new job. Preferably in #DevRel or Engineering Manager role, but as I am a seasoned #JavaSript developer, also looking for #NodeJS positions. Any tips/reposts welcome! #layoffs

Nothing makes me happier in an application process than when the take home test specifies they really value my time, and time-box it to a very reasonable amount of time. When the thought process and structure matter more than the end result, you know they're doing their interviews well.

This was my shortest month ever on #AdventOfCode. But for good reason, my focus was drawn to #factorio. Can’t get enough of the new DLC. And of course… working on another project on the side. Can’t split myself too many times sadly.

Hi all new followers! This really incentivizes me to actually start using social media again. In the coming months you’ll see me posting about jobhunting, #JavaScript, coffee and games. Right now knee-deep into #factorio. What about you?

Hello to the Bluesky community! We're trundling on in with an announcement; the Steam Autumn Sale starts next Wednesday, November 27th with deals on games of all types - from games that are blue, to games that are about skies, and everything in between.

Looks like we’re passing the peak with #AI now. Couldn’t be more happy with that as it’s probably going to actually get more useful and less hyped soon.

Started putting together a starter pack of folks working in tech in the Netherlands! I haven't found a lot tech NL people in Bluesky yet, so this is a literal attempt for me to connect with you all 💕 Comment down below if you'd like to be added!

It's bizarre seeing how popular news media report about #bsky how it has this amazing chronological timeline, and they even explain what it is.... and how amazing it is.... We've been saying this for years

I hit a new record when emptying the bin on my Mac today, over 1 million files deleted. Guess what was in it #JavaScript developers probably know Several copies of node_modules. Yep, that's all.

I really enjoy endless runners on mobile, but they're usually littered with ads. This is why I particularly like "Alto's Oddysey" and "Alto's Adventure". But does anyone know of any good and serious desktop-games that are endless runners?

10 years ago, I sunk €100 into Star Citizen. I didn't get my expected 100 hours of gameplay out of it (I played like 40 so far I think). I'm totally burned out on waiting for it. It looks like Starfield actually delivers what I expected from Star Citizen. I'm curious and will see if I'll buy it

With so many social media networks nowadays, it's hard to keep up. And recently I saw the Mastodon server I'm on had quite a bit of admin drama. Luckily mastodon is an easy-to-migrate to other service. So now I'm here: mastodon.social/@wraldpyk
