Reproduction of Giger's original Alien head at the top, #alienearth creature design at the bottom. Weta's looks like an inbred cousin. the seam in the dome is the kind of thing only toys had up to this point... did they.. copy action figures for their design?..

Alien Earth ended and what began with promise petered out into a gigantic mess. With the ugliest xenomorph designs on screen, it wasn't particularly good at creating the minute to minute tension that is the lifeblood of Alien.. and even at 8 hours the Neverland storyline felt ..undercooked.

this feels less like a "minor fuckup" with continuity and more like a gigantic red flag that the showrunner doesn't actually care all that much about what he's doing. I checked around and Noah Hawley was the first guy in decades of movies, comics, novels, games.. to get this aspect wrong. It's funny

lastly - Alien Earth's tone. Noah Hawley said that he was aiming for the tone of the first movie but landed closer to an Alien comic book. this isn't a problem per se.. except when it goes over the top, a mechanic in ep5 being so stupid that he feels like he comes out of Red Dwarf.

With 8 hours under their belt, the two sibling leads Wendy and Hermit were still less dynamic and less charismatic than the two leads in Fede Alvarez' Alien Romulus.. and if Fede Alvarez is writing better leads than you, then you know your show is fucking up.

in episode 6 it's said that Faster than Light travel isn't a thing in the show's world... it has been in all the movies. in Prometheus they take 2 years to travel to a distant solar system, in Alien it takes 10 months to go from zeta reticuli (39 light years away) back to earth.. etc..

Been liking the show so far.. with last week's episode being the sole exception - it being a Ridley Scott cosplay hour, with some bizarre bad decisions on how to shoot the alien suit. Show is at its best when it's actually focusing on newer material. Looking forward to this weeks episode..

www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMCI... Just watched the first 2 episodes. Oh. It's very good. the scale is gigantic and has been undersold by the trailers. Makes Prometheus look tiny. Feels like a dark horse comic in terms of tone.

New from me, on The Guardian (!!): Generative AI is causing new, unusual problems for game developers — people are being accused of using it, even when they say they haven't. Building trust between a studio and its player base is more important than ever. www.theguardian.com/games/2025/j...

it's a b-movie that isn't insufferably ironic about its nature. It keeps the gags and laughs and chills flowing really fast and it absolutely NAILS the tone that a Resident Evil adaptation ought to have.
