When we say “no more foreign wars.” do we mean… A. A few more foreign wars B. One more foreign war C. An endless military excursion that we pretend isn’t a war. D. NO MORE FOREIGN WARS. If you answered A,B or C, we regret to inform you that you are probably Jim Risch. Link to retire Risch in bio.

A way with words. The eloquent directness is impressive.

Ossoff: “The election deniers, they tell a lie so absurd, and therefore so debasing to tell, that the act of telling it proves the teller's total and humiliating submission. And you may have seen that one of those election deniers now asks to represent Georgia in the Senate.”

Dems and the entire media need to get much more comfortable saying, in whatever way they like, “Get-the-F*-outta-here.” What is so hard about calling out ridiculousness? Why can’t we all be straightforward about it instead of pretending they have to be taken seriously? That time is over.

Have to say I would prefer healthcare.

Continuing President Trump’s deployment of National Guard and active-duty Marine personnel to U.S. cities for the next year could cost the nation over $1 billion, according to an estimate from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office.

The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.” That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.

Agreed. Far too much confidence that “the truth will out.” The sense that the moral arc will bend on its own rather than need active and willful bending.

Beautiful! I would love it if a landscape photography feed became a thing on Bluesky. There are some Nature Photography feeds but it is mostly birds (which is fine), but for me I love landscapes most of all. If it exists, please point me to it.

“Hoodwinked” is an awfully quaint and toothless word choice for serious malfeasance with potentially dire consequences.

Great point - Trump has a "mandate" to do all the stuff that he said he was not associated with?

"Bluesky is awesome now, for how long?" I mean, look, all things change and end, we will all die, earth will be uninhabitable in a billion years, then the sun will expand and destroy the planet, and the universe will die a slow death of proton decay. But BEFORE THAT, let's make this place fun, okay?

Agreed, and I have been thinking (along these lines) it will be important to memorialize what ACTUALLY HAPPENED and reinforce the actual facts to counteract their inevitable alternate history. Consistently. Jan 6 as the perfect example.

The most important thing going forward is that we work to maintain hold of reality because Trump is going to be flipping it upside down on the daily. They have already proven their power to rewrite recent history.

We should be patient. No reason to block in advance. Let them earn it! If they prove themselves to be worthy of a block so be it. It’s just a feed. I would say follow easily, block with reason.

Eric Turkewitz@ericturkewitz.bsky.social

Well this is concerning. 22 people that I follow and trust are also following this guy who runs a huge blocklist. (It’s referred to as “anti-progressive” but I think any prominent Dem voice is a target.) From Russia, but not with love….read on and be warned….and don’t use anyone’s blocklist….

He should. They should. But they won’t. The Democratic Party and much of the media has already implicitly—even explicitly—capitulated to fascism by refusing to make the hard choice to do everything within their power to oppose it. It’s cowardice and normopathy and sanewashing up and down the line.
