People say scientists are serious but marine biologists will spend hours quietly sitting around tables drawing on styrofoam cups and then tying said cups to deep sea submarines Because ocean pressure will squeeze the air from the cups And we are but human & we want tiny cup

Collected river water to make jarquarium with my son and was amazed to see hydras in the water. Never actually seen one myself and didn't realize how easy they are to find and that they are bug enough to see with the naked eye #invert

In 1890, the X and Y chromosomes were discovered. It was found that the men who were tested had 46 chromosomes, including an X and a Y, while women who were tested also had 46 chromosomes, including 2 X chromosomes. So obviously the conclusion was that the Y chromosome defined masculinity.

part of the growing pains of every community, social media, etc is "what do we do with people who are pretending to be kind, saying the right things, and technically not doing anything wrong right now but are still ontologically evil" and the answer is "stop playing their game and ban them"

to anyone complaining Singal didn’t technically do anything wrong on bluesky yet: Jesse Singal has a long history of attacking children, pediatricians, & healthcare providers. Example: He once disappeared from Twitter for a couple weeks after “accidentally” leaking a minor’s medical records.

PayPal is updating their ToS to let themselves give your data to merchants starting in November and they're certainly banking on people not knowing to opt out, SO to opt out before they start: go to Settings > Data & Privacy > Manage shared info > Personalized shopping, and toggle that shit off

Trying to analyze .CEL files for CNV segmentation and need to find genomewidesnp6_libraryfile.zip for the CDF file. Every link is to affymetrix site no longer exists and cannot find this file on Thermofisher. Closest is GenomeWideSNP_6-na35-annot-csv.zip. Love some help! 🖥️🧬

One thing I think is important about this sustained attack - Vance is *still* tweeting about it - on Haitians in Ohio, is that it puts the lie to everything a certain sort of immigration restrictionist said they wanted. "Oh, we just want them to come here legally" They did!! 1/

I'm recruiting a graduate student this year - please help me spread the word! Research in our lab integrates field work, genomics, statistical methods, and mathematical modeling to test evolutionary theory and to predict species responses to climate change.

Klingons are portrayed as evolved super-predators with the instincts of an ambush hunter, yet the dishes we see them eating are live worms & blood puddings, making them closer to a burrowing insectivore like the garden mole, as confirmed by dentition. In this 500 page essay, I will demonstrate....

Any suggestions for CNV calling in low pass whole genome (~0.1x coverage) PDX models that doesn't require matched normal/pool of normals? Looked at ICHOR-CNA but worried that since there's no "normal" present, will mess up results. 1/2 🖥️🧬

Was revisiting public scWGS data using Aneufinder and noticed that some of the results within sample may have estimated the wrong ploidy throwing all results off. Want to merge data from same sample together to do a smoothed estimation of CNVs and compare difference to individual scWGS.

I need to only listen to KDot songs with headphones. During TSA screening, the guard asked for my 5-yo son's name and after my son replied, he added, 'they not like us, they not like us.' Had to tell them my son is a Kendrick fan. As we were walking away, my son had to throw in a "a minooor'

the Adams administration lied and the media ran with it the NYPD now admits there was no “wife of a terrorist” at the Columbia protests after the Mayor used this as cover to assault student protesters last night

Matt Binder@mattbinder.bsky.social

if you are going to post obvious propaganda from Mayor Eric Adams’ administration and then delete it hours after everyone called you out, you owe it to your audience as a supposed journalist to explain exactly what happened here
