This is huge: For the first time since the early 1970s, coal power generation has fallen in both China & India. It undercuts claims that decarbonisation is pointless while they expand coal. Renewables are no longer just adding capacity — they’re displacing coal. www.theguardian.com/business/202...

Arnoldo Bazan, a 16-year-old U.S. citizen, was put in a chokehold by ICE agents. Agents took his phone, which he tracked to a used electronics vending machine near an ICE detention center. Yes: ICE is stealing and selling people’s things after brutalizing them. There are no words.

@marcdaalder.bsky.social - Govt deficits ought to have something to show for them, right? - the point of govt spending is to fuel prosperity. Whereas all chasing a 'surplus' is going to do is fuel austerity - QED. Can you explain why a deficit is bad? Esp when govt is a currency-issuer?

Mexico has issued a travel warning to not to travel to Texas and seven other US states due to a measles outbreak. At least one case has been registered in Mexico after an infected person crossed from the US. The outbreak comes as Trump is slashing infectious diseases protections. #EndAutogenocide

Yesterday I had the privilege of joining Cwmparc residents on a peaceful march, protesting the blocking of a historic right of way that separates the community from their mountain. There was rain, mud, a little bit of trespassing, and hypothermic stand-off 🌧️ Here's my report of events. /THREAD 🧵

Thank you! Its Yiddish. Its often associated with the term Doi'kayt which means hereness which is similar to the Palestinian-Arabic concept Sumud. Its about fighting for your place where you are rather than Dorti'kayt ("thereness") which means looking for the solution to your problems elsewhere.

"To me, the most powerful way I could deny the racist interpretation of this slogan as a call for the genocide of Jews is tattooing it on my body." You don't have to agree with me, but the bare minimum I expect is keeping your stupid pro-genocide or pro-democrat apologia about genocide away from me

😅 That's tellin' ya!!!!

It is time for some of you to learn who I truly am. I'm not just a nerdy payments system, economic policy expert and legal researcher. I'm also the grandchild of Jewish Anti-Zionists who tattooed this on my body December 30th 2023. Accept that you don't get one without the other or get lost.

It was time to flush out some of the wretched Democrats who followed me the past month and happily engage in genocide denial or fantasize about a larger Trump-backed genocide which they think washes the blood off of Democrats hands. Scum.

But, knowing that Govt is not fiscally constrained changes things. The question becomes 'how will we do this important thing?' rather than 'how will we find the money?' Eg, if we need to spend billions on green infra, how can taxes be used to free up the resources required to do the work? [10/n]

Trump's threats of ethnic cleansing in Gaza are abhorrent and the UK government must stand firmly against them

Carla Denyer@carladenyer.bsky.social

Crucial to be aware of this ongoing threat of ethnic cleansing. In this moment, it's essential the UK govt turbocharges efforts towards Palestinian statehood and holds the US to account to ensure it keeps within the rule of law and respects human rights including self determination.

This campaign to privatise NZ's health care system has got to be stopped. We need nationwide strikes. ACT & co may try their 'holding the country to ransom' crap, but don't believe it - ALL of NZ will be in support. This wreckage has got to stop NOW.

Only effective permanent structural fix for the NZ economy is to get off oil as fast and much as possible. Essentially a transportation story. Incentivise a rapid EV transition, and investment in trains, buses, and bikes in and between cities. Plus renewables to power them With urgency = prosperity

All of our inflationary episodes have been driven by increases in global oil prices. Our country runs on diesel and petrol. It's an *input cost* for everything. But... to tackle inflation we increase the price of money, cos TINA. [2/n]
