My name is Huyen Tue Dao. I am 41. I am an Android Developer and am lucky to have worked in Android for 12.5 years. I love Kotlin. I love this job and this community. I also love working out (kettlebells lately) + dancing. I also do a little YouTube and a weekly Android enthusiast podcast. 💜

Leave some questions about anything you're curious about in regards to our every day life as a scientist and software engineer!

Technical Tea@technicaltea.show

Have you ever wanted to know what a research scientist or a software engineer actually do at work? Well now's your chance. We'll be taking your questions into account for our next episode which is "a day in the life" of Huyen and Niki so ask away!

「あいの里 シーズン3」を見て始めた。オープニングはポリスの「見つめていたい(Every Breath You Take)」だけど歌の意味はちょっと。。。アメリカでもそういうこともあるけど。。。ラブソングじゃない。

I went down a leech hole… not like that. #podcast #science #womeninstem Huyen describes what 3AM leech research (leech-search? lee-search?) is like. Luckily it wasn't a hole full of leeches… or a leech's hole… eugh. youtube.com/shorts/XDnZA...

After Effects done by this bitch right here. Examined examples I downloaded from Motion Array and learned how they worked: tore them apart, looked up what different effects do, remixed and added my own little bits like spectrum/waveform. Graphics are modular/reusable for any voice over we need.

I treated myself to a drawing tablet (Android, so on brand) and in the span of about 5 or 6 days, I drew three things for @technicaltea.show that I loved and was proud of. No GenAI. They are very imperfect, but they were all me and joyful and fun. And now I'm just diving back into art.

I was actually quite the "arty" one when I was little. My 5th grade teacher really hoped I would become some kind of an artist, I think, and she always gave me opportunities to express myself and create things. My love of engineering springs very much from the same place.

Especially now when my love of engineering is being tested, burning itself out on this altar to productivity (profit), I find comfort in drawing again. Just me. Imperfect. Not exactly pretty. (Haha, like me?) But feeding that something inside me that is desperate to be nurtured and grow green again.

I am SUPER proud of this episode and spent a LOT of time editing, arranging, looking up extra sources, compiling citations (full show notes of 84 links available on technicaltea.show), and making graphic. Niki made sketches that I also added in. Labor of love. Please watch! This episode means a ton.

What started as a nine-month initiative became an app installed on millions of devices. Sergio Carrilho shares Sony’s six-year KMP journey, spanning BLE, background execution, and the move from React Native to Compose Multiplatform. Go behind the scenes: https://kotl.in/7h8vsr

BTW all of the editing, visuals, graphics, and thumbnails were all done BY ME. Not generated by AI. I did that myself. And I learned a fuck ton. Just saying. And @nicoleackermans.com hand-drew some of the most fucking delightful sketches. You'll have to watch to see.

Excited for our October episode of @technicaltea.show. It has EVERYTHING: great theming, make-up + costumes, spooky AND hilarious AND interesting info, very EXTRA graphics that apparently trip the "this was generated by AI" on IG but really made manually by ME. Subscribe on your podcatcher or YT.

Fuck. You. Instagram/Meta. Niki and I hand-drew over REAL pictures. I spent HOURS working on graphics in After Effects doing mattes, pixel pushing, and adjusting music MYSELF. This wasn't even fucking enhanced. Apparently, the only mistake I made was using your platform to publish it. #FuckAI

For the non-Android folks, Jake is easily the most respected engineer in our community. He's contributed/maintained open source software for years now. Incredibly knowledgeable and experienced. But even moreso I respect him for using his platform with calm, earnest candor and speaking his truth.

Jake Wharton refuses to code with AI. When he left Cash App, he published nine requirements for his next job. Number one was: No AI. Our full conversation with the legendary Android developer is out now: layoffs, AI, Google and Kotlin in 2026.

The bright side of eponymously naming things: discovering amazing people that did the WORK in Science and Technology. Very luck to have seen the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope before it launched recently. Inspiring experience on many levels. science.nasa.gov/mission/roma...

Who is the eponym behind the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope currently on a mission studying dark energy, exoplanets, and astrophysics? What word did Huyen learn that she just cannot say? youtube.com/shorts/aNaWm... #podcast #stem #womeninstem

Tony is an amazing engineer, a great communicator, and a great person. Legitimately, he is THE expert for Gradle. Hire him.

Episode 2 is live! Why do we name birds, telescopes, and principles after people? The good, the bad, the weird. Is there Death of the Author for Eponyms? Why infinitely optimizing (and going over the speed limit) may not work. Here's a clip youtube.com/shorts/ZuBYr...

My cousin’s shirt took me a second. He said “it’s great because anyone who would be offended by it couldn’t understand it anyway.”

#DroidKaigi has grown so much since we last attended in person but from 10 years ago to now, it remains a wonderfully organized, impactful event. From the content to the operations, everything is so high-level and it is easy to see and experience the care and dedication of the staff. 本当にありがとうございました!

#DroidKaigi 2016 と #DroidKaigi 2026. We are a little older. My hair is a lot more purple. But we are still coming to Japan together as a couple and as Android developers.
