The more I think about it, the clearer it is that the main subtext of the Anthropic S-1 is, "To be honest, it would be better for us to be taken into public ownership."

Francis (@FrancisChipp) EXCLUSIVE🚨: I’m told Newcastle United will not entertain any compensation offers for Eddie Howe until Manchester United complete the outstanding payments on the £20m fee agreed for Dan Ashworth in 2024. https://t.co/jRkKIYShrV

"Anthropic is just a company. It would be fine for everyone, and good for shareholders, if we all treated it like one and expected it to act like one. Thinking that an elaborate corporate structure will protect us from the potentially terrible power of AI or any other technology is a moronic folly."

Unbelievable loss. An amazing talent, and just a really, really good person. www.instagram.com/p/De8RFy4pyov/

The likes of Mayer used to have people called PAs to do this for them, as well as remember birthdays, and send checks on time to the boarding school. Oh, progress.

Carrick given proper send off but fans know the inevitable is coming. He was in over his head. After Carrick in tunnel, immediate boos for the players. Spoke volumes. Not sure what manager will make it any better. Nothing changes until the club is sold. #glazersout

The Glazers have taken more than millions from Manchester United; they have systematically destroyed the club from top to bottom and robbed supporters of decades of memories.

*cough*

If you want to solve the problems at United, there is only one surefire way to do it. Empty the ground, boycott the sponsors and be prepared to see the club close in its present form. Blaming manager after manager while the same toxic issues persist beyond each has become tiresome.

United could easily be two down already without having made a decent chance themselves. The energy level is shocking.

As the gap between the internal models at the AI labs and the ones they release grow (due to safety concerns & research advantages), it will be increasingly tempting for OpenAI & Anthropic to exploit that advantage directly by entering new markets, especially in finance & biotech.

TLDR on the kimi k3.1 pro benchmarks (just released) is that it looks like they figured out their RL, where the initial release was a very impressive base model with lighter post-training. China is very much keeping pace with capability gains.

Education accounts for more than 8% of UK employment and is the country's fourth largest sector by headcount. This is a simply batshit decision.

The BBC will no longer have a dedicated education editor as part of a cost-cutting proposal that will see 100 jobs axed across BBC News. Roles of education editor and social affairs editor are to be combined into a single position as part of the changes www.theguardian.com/media/2026/o...

Streisand Effect incoming? Because the doco is going to leak online, if HBO doesn't stream it.

Slander and libel tourists love that the UK has one of the most aggressive legal regimes on the planet... but can forget that, wherever they sue, that has bred some of the most aggressive legal professionals and advisors across British media. At home or abroad, they do not fuck about.

University of Nottingham, right now, is cutting 560 jobs. Do we need to rebrand universities as very large, very clean, land-based oil rigs to get government support?

Leo Hickman@leohickman.carbonbrief.org

From the govt's press release: "The developer estimates that Jackdaw will create 27 new direct jobs and safeguard 273 existing jobs that would otherwise be lost." Odd that so much is made about this being good for jobs. Your nearest out-of-town supermarket likely generates more jobs.

Someone should ask Zuckerberg why not abandon a commercial launch and make them for free but only available through a prescription. There'd still be a trade-off but not one as obviously manipulative and abusive. If you see the visually impaired as a marketing opportunity, you are a piece of shit.

As I predicted a while ago, the media response to this is blaming the "fractious debate" and putting all responsibility on the community's tone, rather than the design choices and priorities of the corporation designing invasively, creepy products mostly used for abusive behaviours

It is so so so so so so unbelievably evil to manufacture an abuse-enabling product, and then intentionally chain that product to the function of a disability aid as a marketing / regulatory delay tactic. It blows my mind how evil that is. Meta is the worst

Meta is so unbelievably evil. They make a technology primarily designed to enable abuse, harassment and privacy violations, but also embed real disability aids. The tactic now is to use an entire community as human shields to defend against criticisms www.engadget.com/2236054/meta...

The tenor of the public debate around smart glasses has concerned members of the disability community, who say the devices give them more independence.

Saw Wise's The Haunting at the Byrd in Richmond yesterday. I've seen it many times on a big display but in a theater, the Panavision compositions really pop - formal, tight, and so oppressive. Add on brilliant B&W camerawork, set design and suggestion over explicitness - a masterpiece. #FilmSky

The worst thing about United caving today wasn't United caving against 10 men, it was that you expected United to cave even against 10 men.
