A little over a month since we shared this, and we've now reached 22,000 paying subscribers! Still no sales team, but plenty of people helping us spread the word. Thank you all for the support! 💜

We just reached 21,000 paying subscribers, and without a sales team. Instead, we’ve spent years writing about what we stand for: • Analytics that respects privacy • Analytics that doesn't require a degree to understand • Who Plausible is made for, but also stating explicitly: who it is not for

We're an analytics company, but we don't track how you interact with our emails. No open tracking. No click tracking. No invisible tracking pixels. This goes for both our transactional emails and newsletters. Privacy isn't just something we build into our product. It's how we operate.

How do we show city-level stats, without compromising on privacy? ✅ Geolocation lookup is done server-side ✅ MaxMind (our data provider) never sees the IP ✅ No raw IPs in our database, logs, or on disk ✅ We store only country, region, and city You get detailed stats. Your visitors keep privacy.

We have moved the "Save as segment" option out of the dropdown, & put it right next to your filters. Why? Because that's where you are when you think, "I'll want to see this view again!" Just click the star to save your current combination of filters as a segment. Tiny move, but more intuitive!

After funnels, we've redesigned our Filters. The new design makes exploring and segmenting your analytics more intuitive: → Cleaner layout → Easier navigation → Smoother everyday workflow Live on all dashboards. We hope you like it! 💜

With 3 months still to go, we've already added 40% more net subscribers than in our previous best full year. The growth is accelerating, and we're still only 10 people on the team. For us, revenue has scaled way faster than the team size. → We didn't hire ahead of demand → We didn't add..

add management layers → We didn't raise money to grow faster Sometimes, growth doesn't need a bigger team. It needs a better product and patience. Thank you to everyone who believes in Plausible. 💜

Stripe uses Plausible for their web analytics. Another good example proving that simple, privacy-friendly analytics isn't just for small websites.

We're now the web analytics partner to Mozilla! Mozilla has played an important role in building a healthier, more open and private web, and we're grateful to the Mozilla team for trusting Plausible.

We ignore highly upvoted feature requests all the time. We also build features people never asked for. Reason: product direction beats feature count. A popular feature request proves there’s demand for the feature. It doesn’t prove it belongs in your product. Our approach:

✅ Run a public feedback board ✅ Listen to what people want ✅ Build only what fits: simple interface + privacy-first analytics Saying no to a popular request isn't always losing a customer. It can mean gaining ten who are a better fit, and easier to keep serving well.

In the last few weeks, Plausible has kept 4 billion bot visits out of your dashboards. All the filtering happens automatically in the background to ensure your analytics show real, human visits and not bots.

Plausible Analytics@plausible.io

We improved our bot filtering over night so your stats won't get polluted. What's new? Bots have gotten smarter. They run real browsers, use residential IPs, have become better at mimicing actual visitor behavior. We identified several new patterns like these and updated our filters. We block ~2B

Plausible now lets you make your funnels flexible! What does it mean? Your funnel shows a 40% conversion rate. But you're only counting people who completed every single step. A flexible funnel only marks your first and last steps as required. Everything between them becomes optional.

✅ Simply toggle "Flexible" when creating or editing any funnel, no code changes needed ✅ You can edit your existing funnels too Try now & see how your conversion rates change between different kinds of funnels!

If you're collecting everything but still struggling to understand your website, that's not insight. That's noise. Better analytics doesn't mean tracking more things. It means answering basic questions without drowning in dashboards. What's bringing people here? What are they doing? What is..

..What is working? Those should be simple to answer. Instead, you open your analytics and the answer is buried under 200 reports and metrics you never use. More data can make you feel informed without making anything clearer.

Google Analytics doesn't run a charity. When analytics is free, someone is still paying. Yes, there's no subscription. No invoice. Millions of data points processed for you at no cost. But running analytics at that scale costs real money. With GA, you're just not the one paying. The people..

..visiting your website are. With their data. That's the trade “free” analytics makes easy to overlook. The price of free isn't always on your company card.

• Why we stay subscriber-funded and so on. It gives people enough information to make up their own minds. They find us, understand what we stand for and decide if they want to pay for it. Sometimes, honest communication does all the selling.

Now you can see your revenue in funnels! See how many visitors completed a defined journey, how much revenue they generated, and the average revenue per visitor. Our goal: make sophisticated funnel analysis feel like normal web analytics.

Funnels have gotten another major upgrade: Earlier, you could only see funnels for a selected time range. Now, you can also compare them (each individual step) across different time ranges. Just enable comparison in the date range selector, and see how funnels perform through any custom range.

Plausible funnels before: a basic bar chart & info. Now: ✓ Cleaner visual layout ✓ Easier to scan ✓ gives more useful info at a glance You see what percentage of visitors reached each step, how many continued, and how many dropped off. The gray area visualizes the drop-offs. What do you think?

We block ~2B bot visits every month. As bots evolve, our detection evolves with them. The goal: keep bots out of your analytics without filtering out real visitors. ✔️ Our bot filtering is not limited to premium plans ✔️ Happens automatically at the script level, no for special settings

In a time where SaaS customers are automatically migrated to new plans costing up to 20x more, we still honor our grandfathered plans. 7 years in, some subscribers are still paying the price they signed up for years ago. We manually maintain those plans for them even as our pricing evolves. contd.

..It’s the era of acquisitions and fancy exits. We don’t plan on having one. There are no investors pushing us toward one either. Just you, us, and a product we believe in. We’re building Plausible for the long term, not the next quarter.

European companies prefer Plausible. You can host your website in Europe, choose European infrastructure and take GDPR seriously. Then load Google Analytics on every page and send your visitors’ data to Google. For companies trying to keep more of their data in EU, that increasingly doesn’t...

...make much sense. One of our subscribers put it simply: “Plausible being built in the EU matters to us too... it would be odd to route our own visitors through Google.” Plausible is built and operated in the EU. Visitor data stays in the EU. Sometimes the choice is that simple.

You don't need a hidden business model if you can keep a simple, clear relationship with your customers. You pay for a product. We build the product for you. We don’t need to monetize the personal data of the people visiting your website, and make the economics work. A happy Plausible subscriber:

Patience + trust in the process play a role here too. It took us 324 days to reach $400 MRR. Not $400k. $400. Another 9 months: $10k MRR. And 3 years after launching: $1M ARR. Today, more than 20k teams pay for Plausible. Still open-source. Still fully user-supported.

Customers make an open-source business financially stable, not donations. We tried to fund Plausible through donations. In 6 months, we got 6 donations. $5 each. $30 total. In the same 6 months, paid subscriptions grew from $400 to $8,500 MRR. Open source needs a business model, not a tip jar.

A VC firm accidentally became our press team. We’ve received hundreds of emails from investors over the years. We’ve said no every time. Being 100% subscriber-funded means we answer to the people paying for Plausible. No investor agenda to balance against theirs. The funny part?

Two analytics companies. Two data policies. Google: “...measure the effectiveness of advertising... and personalize content and ads...” Plausible: “Your data is not used for advertising, profiling or monetization.” Privacy isn’t a setting. It starts with the business model.

Schrems I ended Safe Harbour in 2015. Schrems II ended Privacy Shield in 2020. noyb is preparing what could become Schrems III against the EU-US Data Privacy Framework & asked the Commission to withdraw it. GA uses it for EU-US transfers. Plausible keeps visitor data in the EU on EU-owned infra.

One July number we left out: 4,248 trial signups, our third-best month ever. That’s the final point on the chart. The chart isn't a mockup. It's our real, public dashboard. You can follow the August numbers live here: plausible.io/plausible.io

While indie hacker Twitter debated whether SaaS is dying, our July: • $22.2k in new MRR, our best month ever • MRR up 28.5% year over year • 20,183 paying subscribers AI may have made products easy to clone. Ours has been open source and free to clone since 2019. The code was never the moat.

"The cost of analytics is not the cost of your analytics subscription: it's the engineering time and cognitive overhead you put on yourself." People often compare analytics tools by monthly price. But that's rarely the expensive part. There is also an underrated cost: engineering time.

Maintenance. Complexity. Trying to remember how your setup works six months later. Every hour spent maintaining your analytics is an hour not spent building your product.

20,000+ teams now pay for Plausible! 🎉 That's 20,000 teams who looked at the free option and decided their visitors' privacy mattered more. We're grateful to everyone who's chosen Plausible. Thank you. 🙏

You can track ad performance without tracking people. Click a Google or Microsoft ad and the landing URL includes: `?gclid=...` `?msclkid=...` Those are unique click identifiers. Useful for attribution, but they create GDPR concerns when collected without consent. How Plausible handles this?

Plausible strips the unique ID automatically and keeps what you actually need: the traffic source. You can still view and filter clicks from Google Ads or Microsoft Ads. ✅ No personal identifier stored ✅ Campaign insights preserved ✅ No extra privacy toggles needed

The best privacy feature is knowing there isn't a catch. You shouldn't need to dig through settings to see what's being collected. Or read fine print to understand what happens to visitor data. Privacy-friendly analytics should be simple enough to explain: • No cookies

• No cross-site tracking • No visitor profiles • No personal data collection Just the website stats you need. Privacy shouldn't require trust in a promise. It should be obvious from how the product works.

Plausible dashboards are private by default. But if you want to be transparent, you can make your stats public with a toggle. Great for open startups, indie projects, public communities, and anyone who wants to share what’s happening. Private by default. Public when you choose.

Our landing pages look just like our blog posts. Text-first. No fancy layouts. No animations. Yet, they work the way we want them to. Helpful messaging beats trendy design when people actually need what you offer. If they don't get it from reading, scrolling through animations won't help either.
