70 percent of the internet was vulnerable yesterday to very bad security flaws inside a coding language. Turns out, *one volunteer* is mostly responsible for maintaining that code & helping push updates. Yesterday Ondřej Surý saved the internet. So I called him up www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...

theatlantic.comThe Man Who Saved the Internet YesterdayOndřej Surý was a relatively anonymous volunteer working on PHP security. Then the internet exploded.

This attitude keeps popping up in local FB groups… and getting THOUROUGHLY dunked on. I don’t know who’s agitating this but even the cranks and olds Are Not Having It.

“I’m old. I’ve paid my home off,” said Ray Warner, a 72-year-old Akron resident. “Why would I pay property tax?” Across the country, homeowners are asking the same question and revolting against property taxes at a scale not seen in a half century.

The flip side of this, of course, is that current property taxes in Lansing are SO high on even a moderate salary… and no one’s offering alternative plans to ease a very real burden.

I loathe Meta platforms and their random-ass timeline. It’s designed that way to keep people on their apps longer, which, like, yeah I also spend more time on the road when I’m hopelessly lost and can’t find familiar landmarks.

I keep thinking about all the serial killers who able to target sex workers because they were societal outcasts who didn’t get proper protection.

I work in a beautiful office building overlooking the scenic RiverTrail… where sleeping homeless men are getting attacked. I can look out my window and see who slept under the bridge last night while I am completely safe & comfortable. I hate this disparity.

Next time try using Summon Greater Juggalo. It's a pretty easy spell to learn and inexpensive to boot because it only costs like $1.50 for a bottle of Faygo as a reagent.

One of the things that really stuck with me from Charles C. Mann’s 1491 is that while the Europeans were appalled at the Aztecs’ “human sacrifices” — at the same moment in history, a greater number of people were “publically executed” in Europe.

This is a brilliant thread. While there was a lot of violence in the Middle Ages, it is crucial to acknowledge that our contemporary attitudes - in their myriad varieties - are all born out of our own historical context. The abhorrent ones are not relict medieval sentiments, but equally modern.

Thread.

If Hegseth really wanted those in service to turn against him, in a way usually unachievable in that kind of power structure, forcing them into a firing squad is a really good way to do it!

More than two dozen workers at three major publishing houses—HarperCollins, Simon & Schuster, and Hachette—tell WIRED that LLMs are being used for publicity, cover art, back cover copy, and emails, as some execs push junior staff to champion the tech. Read the full story: buff.ly/p0ymGmN

Bit by bit I keep developing a deeper understanding of myself & a deeper understanding of other ppl & u would think at some point I would say “ah yes. knowledge, achieved” but there is yet more to learn

This is really cool! I did not know the Korean alphabet was superphonetics!

Ryan Estrada@ryanestrada.com

Happy Hangul Day! It's a Korean holiday honoring the best and easiest alphabet in the world! Everyone in Korea gets the day off work to contemplate it, but it only takes fifteen minutes to learn! So today, learn to read Korean in 15 minutes!

Took today off to knock out some crushing paperwork. Two things can be true: I love my home workspace, it’s the best room in the house; also, this weather is TOO NICE to be inside
