Do you think the Bluesky community could convince Trump that lining the entire US-Canada border with wind turbines would keep smoke from illegally entering US airspace?

This is a wonderful video and I feel churlish saying this, but “dude, no way” is a bit disappointing.

NEW: Astronaut Reid Wiseman shares a video of ‘Earthset’ that was taken with his iPhone “This is uncropped, uncut with 8x zoom which is quite comparable to the view of the human eye…” Wiseman said. This has to be the greatest iPhone video of all time.

The Supreme Court ruling has helped the family of one man in particular: the architect of Trump’s tariffs himself. A firm headed by Lutnick’s sons was allowing its traders to purchase the rights to hundreds of millions of dollars of refunds in the event tariffs were struck down. trib.al/JcwQ9MT

Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again. #Pinks #ProudBlue

If you’re wondering why your friends in academia are a little on edge right now, it’s because an eighteen-year-old who hasn’t done the reading, doesn’t look at the assignment, and has does no critical thinking skills more complex than “because I think it’s in the Bible” can literally end your career

The University of Oklahoma has removed an instructor who was accused by a student of religious discrimination over a failing grade on a psychology paper in which she cited the Bible and argued that promoting a “belief in multiple genders” was “demonic.” https://cnn.it/4b6g3rd

This is what’s needed. Intelligent people witnessing the dangerous consequences of foolish gutting of important agencies and both warning the public and urging them to call their representatives. Next we likely need meteorologists leading street protests.

something that stands out about this is just how cheap it is for us to have world-leading scientific capacity we spent ~6.75 trillion last year, and the combined budgets for NIH, NSF and NASA are barely more than 1% of that what an incredible waste to lose it all for a drop in the bucket

Peter Gleick@petergleick.bsky.social

There are 2 previous historical cases of countries destroying their science and universities, crippling them for decades: Lysenkoism in the USSR and Nazi Germany. The Trump administration will be the 3rd. It's not just budgets but research, institutions, expertise, and training the next generation.

Everyone in the US likely has a relative or loved one who has served, and who could, or did, give their life for us. The entire country, every last person, should be disgusted and pissed off far beyond the extreme today by the statement issued by the jackass in charge. Honor the fallen every day.

Prof. Stefan Rahmstorf@rahmstorf.bsky.social

It further shows a similar sea-level rise pattern after #AMOC shutdown as we found in Levermann et al. 2005, with the dynamic rise extending down into the South Atlantic. (That would be added to any global rise caused by climate warming.) 🧵 ➡️ agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....

Harvard today, your institution tomorrow. It's all part of the Project 2025 plan to destroy high education in America. All leading US universities depend on federal funding and tuition dollars from international students. They severely curtailed the former. Now they're eliminating the latter.

Peter Howd reposted

Trump just banned Harvard from enrolling international students. 25% of the campus—cut off. Graduation next week—canceled for many. Why? Politics. Retaliation. Power plays. This isn’t policy—it’s punishment. And it’s tearing into the heart of higher education.

Peter Howd reposted

It's a rich irony that a President who is obsessed by the trade balance is blocking one of our best exports: American higher ed. International students pay fees, create high-paying jobs, learn ideas, and spread them globally. But they can't come without reliable visas.

So, Trump gets an old 747. Tax $$ of about 1000 million (yeah, a billion) and 2 years to bring it to AF1 specs. Then a year and millions then strip it of classified tech before sending it to the Trump Library in 2028? Anyone else see an issue?
