if you ever happen to see someone post a joke you don't understand or discuss a subject you aren't familiar with, you are well within your right to complain, and perhaps even scold them if necessary. you are their customer and you have rights

Any journos interested in a story about an MP’s office blocking the Electoral Commission from participating in a local enrolment event that *just happened* to target rangatahi & whānau Māori? #nzpol DM me

New Zealand’s High Court has ruled that the ban on new puberty blocker prescriptions for trans young people was unlawful and discriminatory. The decision could give fresh momentum to calls to reverse restrictions in the UK! 🤞

I gave $1000 because trans journalists need support. We cis people need trans journalists to help us better understand the world! Please join me in supporting the TJA.

Trans Journalists Association@transjournalists.org

We're digging our heels in. 🥾👠 TJA is raising $25,000 by Dec 1 for trans and gender-expansive journalists, because we're in this work for the long haul. And we're just getting started! Give today: bit.ly/DiggingOurHeelsIn

it’s bad, actually, that much of the industry is gatekept by people whose standard for hiring a woman is “are you a Cool Girl who is into weird men doing sex stuff at her all the time?”

Faine Greenwood@faineg.com

Women trying to succeed in Silicon Valley AI and effective altruist spaces are reporting feeling serious social pressure to attend sex parties - where people have reported being sexually assaulted, like below. Events like Aella’s “Slutcon,” which is happening again this weekend.

The Flytrap has grown steadily over the past two years. We launched in October '24 with our flagship Tuesday newsletter, featuring worker-owners writing about pop culture, politics, games, books, and much more, through an intersectional + expansive feminist lens.

You know, the pandemic would have sucked enough without it radicalizing some of the country's worst people and getting them into politics.

Initially I was frustrated with the rise of self-checkout but I appreciated how stores passed the savings on to me rather than pocket the money, fire armies of workers & make me do a job I suck at. It’s also why I’m optimistic about AI! I have been kicked in the head by several horses.

When I babysit little kids they often want me to give their toys a kiss goodnight and tuck them in to bed, too. This is that, but for adults. Except no kid ever tried to convince me Teddy was smart, or could do my job. Still have to indulge the fantasy to keep the peace.

The Greens supermarket policy, and Labour’s dismal performance this week reminded me of this banger.

Not to be some wild-eyed innocent, but I think it should be slightly bigger news that The Lancet have crunched the numbers and found that Musk's USAID cuts will kill 14 million people. And that's just by 2030. That's 9,600 people a day, every day, until the next world cup rolls around.

If you are disabled and live in Hawke’s Bay, Canopy Imaging in Hastings, at Royston Hospital, is the place to book your breast screening. It’s fully wheelchair accessible and the women there couldn’t be lovelier, or more helpful.

Racism in Northland police and what sounds like a truly awesome young guy who deserves a small medal, not the nonsense he received... (Also, why it's worth keeping a Herald sub) www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/racism-cl...

My understanding is there is no definition, in law or anywhere else really. But a proper law person will know more.

te kootahekore ranapiri@ired0mi.bsky.social

question for law people, do we have a definition for biological male and female under nz law or is this new bill literally saying nothing ?

It’s weird that Helen of Troy being played by a black actress is a problem, but most of the rest of the Mediterranean, Greek and Turkish characters being played by incredibly fair and blond haired people of British, Irish and Scandinavian descent isn’t. And by weird, I mean entirely predictable.
