BREAKING ⚡: We’re calling on the next Scottish government to ensure Scotland’s energy wealth benefits EVERYONE - not just private companies, overseas investors and shareholders.

SCCS took part in the Uplift session at Scottish Greens Conference. Amanda outlined how the energy transition should prioritise warmer homes and better buses, NOT AI data centres! Great that Greens voted for a motion rejecting Jackdaw and calling on Scottish Gov to oppose Rosebank. @ourpower.scot

"The North Sea was built by our labour. Its decommissioning, and what succeeds it, should be shaped by our voices too." 📚Read more from Mike Sarnecki in the Scottish Left Review 🔗https://scottishleftreview.scot/what-does-it-mean-for-workers-to-be-involved-injust-transition-planning/

Galileo Empower promises "free electricity" via AI for homes near the Dorenell Wind Farm extension in Moray. Slick PR headline? Yes. A good deal for locals? No. 🧵👇

Research shows 100% community-owned wind farms generate up to 52x more local revenue than corporate benefit funds. Direct bill discounts leave power in corporate hands while foreign funds siphon millions in profits off Scottish land every year.

Our communities should own renewables generation directly. It’s time to move from corporate PR handouts to genuine local energy equity. ✊ Land & wind belong to the community.

Thanks @lesleyriddoch.bsky.social for stopping by our @ourpower.scot stall. ⚡️ The FM announced they're bringing buses under public control. Now it's time to bring more of Scotland's energy into public hands! 🙌

We caught up with @lesleyariddoch at the SNP conference and had a chat comparing Norway's community ownership of energy to Scotland's largely corporate ownership.⚡️ We've got renewables everywhere, but we're not benefitting. Time to change that!

How can we start pushing back on these out of control energy prices? More community-owned wind. These energy companies only want profits. ScotGov needs to clear the way for more community generation of energy! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿⚡️ https://bit.ly/4s3sQBb

Alright, who's ready for a wild story this morning? 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿⚡️ Scotland has the world's first ever floating wind farm. It's called Hywind and it's off the coast in the North East.

In 2024, all five floating turbines had to be towed all the way to a port in NORWAY because there is no port in Scotland or in the UK with the right infrastructure to service them.

Denmark, Norway, and Germany take public equity in offshore wind and use the wealth to fund their public services. Scotland signs over its sea beds to foreign multinationals. We don't lack potential. We lack the backbone to demand a 20% public stake in our own wind. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿⚡

Industrial bosses abandoned Kilbirnie. Now corporate energy giants want to extract wealth from our wind. Kilbirnie fought back. 1 community turbine will generate £12M directly for local services and fight fuel poverty. It's time for public & community ownership. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿⚡ https://bit.ly/4ybhyfG

ourpower.scotGenerating a future for Kilbirnie and Scotland - Our Power ScotlandHow a 2.5MW community-owned wind turbine in Kilbirnie is powering 2,000 homes and generating £12m to fund local jobs, transport, and community services in the Garnock Valley.

We know that here in Scotland, we need more renewables. But we're also tired of big projects just being done to us, rather than with us. Community-owned energy has been shown to boost community trust and support because it actually benefits us! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Your local council is cutting library hours and filling fewer potholes, while multi-billion-pound developers build wind turbines on your doorstep and ship the profit overseas. Let's keep that money here with more public & community ownership of renewables⚡️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Multinational energy giants generate billions off Scotland’s natural wind, send the profits to overseas shareholders, and leave our local councils broke. We don't need corporate charity. We need public equity and true community ownership in our own energy. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿⚡

Communities like Tweedsmuir are being locked out of the massive profits generated on their doorstep. We're calling time on optional, developer-led handouts. It's time for real public, municipal, and community energy ownership.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿Our communities deserve the maximum ambition when it comes to offshore wind. With even a small 20% stake funded by SNIB, Scotland could thrive.

I was interviewed by BBC Scotland yesterday about Syngenta’s announcement that they intend to shut their chemicals plant in Grangemouth, threatening 400 jobs. The key points are the high human cost of more local manufacturing job losses and that government has a window to act decisively.

We can't stop making the same mistakes. We need ScotGov to step up their commitment to workers with more investment in renewables manufacturing. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿👨🏻‍🏭

Scotland's energy future demands more ambition. With the right leadership, we could all be benefitting from our renewables. But, right now the only ones benefitting are private corporations and their share holders.
