This went on for the rest of the full hour, at which point the BBC apologised for having to go to the weather and urged viewers to follow continuing live coverage on iPlayer. Forty-one minutes of unfiltered, unchallenged propaganda by a far right party with 8 MPs, now third in the polls. Discuss.
BBC News just interrupted its coverage to go, live, to Nigel Farage - a man with no contitutional standing in our setup - responding to the budget - a document which nobody has seen yet. WHY

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

Best bit.... nice drive by.... "despite a serious effort from her predecessor Boris Johnson, she is widely regarded (and not just by the people she so despises) as the worst premier in the 305-year history of that office."
"Of all the books I have ever reviewed that purported to offer a serious thesis, this is without question the most deranged."

Saw this case only because it happened near to where I was brought up. The comments on FB (even though there’s a woman involved) are noticeably quieter than anything involving non-white perpetrators.
Stop the selective outrage! "While politicians and sections of the media obsess over small boats and immigration, here's a story that deserves national outrage! ... Child abuse has no race, religion or nationality ..." www.facebook.com/groups/12182... via The Fabian Society Exposed

Can’t believe this. Speaking plainly, and honestly. Finally addressing the issue head on, instead of skirting around it, pretending Brexit is fine. Finally.
🤩 This is a significant moment. Burnham says openly that Brexit has weakened 🇬🇧 economy, failed to deliver promised control over immigration and produced a harder Brexit than many people were led to expect in 2016. On rejoin EU: “I would like to see that happen in my lifetime.” And next 👇 🧵

Yes 👏 Finally, a Prime Minister being honest about the damage Brexit has done - and the only real option on the table. EU membership. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c8e36kyk1qx5o

I’m lucky enough to have a good high street about 10/12 minutes walk away. Quick look through the last month of bank transactions for retail spending there: Holland & Barrett (once), TG Jones (three times), indie vape shop (twice), indie card & overpriced tat present shop (once).
The British syndrome, summarised: 78% of us say our high streets are important to us. But only 28% of us actually use their local high street even once a week – and only 53% of people said they used theirs *once a month*. We won't use it, and we won't lose it.

Fascinating Jeremy, now tell us about the time you cut national insurance twice as an electoral game despite knowing we couldn't afford it.

UK offering Freedom of Movement would be the game changer for conversations with the EU, one of the trio of people, pounds and positivity I identified earlier this year as crucial to any significant move to removing barriers.
Prime Minister Andy Burnham says he wants a more 'honest conversation' about freedom of movement, suggesting it could work better than post-Brexit immigration has. www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/...

I keep changing my mind on the one result that will make me the happiest after the midterms, but I think I'm settling on this guy needs to win. He's really, really good and the Democrats need him elected.

Perhaps Cambridge University would like to explain why they think it reasonable that James Orr can continue teach ETHICS (of all subjects) to their students?
The 'academic management roles' are chair of the Faculty of Divinity's exam board and convenor of the MPhil in philosophy of religion. He continues to lecture undergraduates in ethics. With a sharing link for 3 non-subscribers.

I'd also question this generic statement re social media saying 'everything's getting worse'. just isn't true IME; but then I also make a point of not being on X or FB, or wasting my time on here with people who just constantly whine. as always, you curate your experience on social media.
