Been so long since I last posted anything anywhere that I have started feeling a blocking fear around posting stuff. So here is a post to help me remember that I am not going to die if nobody likes my post...

Gonna start forcing people to put in a deposit when they book a meeting with me. No-show without any heads up means you lose your deposit. €450 sounds about right.

Self actualization is great. But what about shared actualization? Joining with a group of people with similar values to go on a quest to grow together. I think this will only become more important.

"Chubby had not demanded much out of life, and had got it." This quote from Terry Pratchett's Men at Arms is a perfect example of why I can't get enough of his writing. 😍

💥 Why elite CTOs still need coaches in the age of AI New episode released today. @nyblom.io‬ & I cover: • a coach helps you see what you can't • coaching # information • energy is the multiplier • writing a "user manual of me" 1️⃣

This is such an important shift, because "I am bad at X" implies there is something inherently wrong with me. "I am unpracticed at X" implies that X is a skill that can be learned.

MIndset shift I'm mulling over when making art. Rather than saying "I'm bad at x" I'm going to try and shift how I communicate that to myself and others as "I'm unpracticed at x" because the latter contains in part the solution and it helps me feel less stuck. I'm unpracticed at drawings heads.

One of the challenges to understanding climate change is that extremes don't necessarily change in the same way as averages. In Western Europe, for example, the hottest day of the year is warming noticeably faster than the average summer day.

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People starts with a very interesting ask: "Read this book as if you were going to teach what you just read within 48 hours." This resonates really well with me, because it calls for a deeper understanding.

Love this! 😍 Was Browsing Simon Sinek's website to learn more about what he actually sells and noticed a link in the footer titled "Curious?" Clicked it and all it did was open this popup with a discount code. 🥰 Fantastic way to delight the user!

Random reflection that came to me just now: I have the power to create whatever life I say I want! I know I can, because I have done it twice already. First time I focused on the money. Second time I focused on the life style. Now, the third time, I am focusing on combining the two.

Today is Friday, which means I am writing my newsletter. I just prompted Claude to "Give me some brutal feedback on the current draft." And now I need to take a walk, because I am fucking fuming! 🤬

Nearly every elite tennis player in the world has a coach. Professional athletes rely on coaches to ensure they perform at their peak. But do we, as CTOs, have coaches?

I was interviewed for a podcast earlier this week. When reviewing the result I noticed one of us said a number that was way off. The host said "No problem" and used AI to change both voice and video so that he said the correct number. 🤯

Perfect example of why I love using AI (in this case, Claude) while writing my newsletter. I feed in a draft, ask for feedback, ask it to clarify it's feedback and get back an explanation of how to improve a paragraph where I was trying to do to much. This makes me a much better writer.

Discworld QOTD, from The Last Continent “Now look," snapped the Dean, "we've searched everywhere for a decent library on this island. There simply isn't one! It's ridiculous. How is anyone supposed to get anything done?”

Discworld QOTD, from Thud!

I've been writing my newsletter for 41 weeks now. Most of the time I have no idea if any of my 85 subscribers really read it. But on rare occations one of my readers lets me know how a perticular issue helped them. Today was one of those days. 🥰

Why are they still going with that weird icon? Looks like "uploading your mailbox". Is that some odd iOSism? Share icon should be the connected 3 small circles. It is known.

Failing to give feedback during and after delegating something seems to be a common theme amongst leaders. I have had the same conversation with three senior leaders this week. All three didn't want to seem to controlling. But it's not about control. It's about clarity.

This no-kill animal shelter is in desperate need of kitten food, kitten milk replacement, and other supplies. If you post a screenshot in my replies showing that you donated at least $10 (even as a Chewy gift card), I'll answer a style-related question for you. Donation info in their thread.
