BTW, we are a new and growing community. We absolutely do want to support new and first time speakers! @ngerakines.me has some ideas around mentorship and feedback to help make great presentations, and also how lightning talks can give every one a way to present their ideas & projects.

I found this Linux program called "asciiquarium" that basically turns your terminal into an aquarium full of little ASCII fish and sharks and stuff, it's really fun ^-^

The PC will still be utilised in a strange way, other than gaming. I'm going to use it to mock up a Kubernetes target for deployments. And I can also lean on the GPU with ollama to play with local models.

So the downgrade to Ubuntu 22.04 from 24.04 was so that I could regain access to my hybrid graphics, allowing me to run multi-monitor from the Thinkpad. A weirdness I wasn't expecting. I also have to remember to be a little less cavalier with my upgrades.

Current setup; mainlining my Thinkpad with Ubuntu 22.04 Desktop on it for dev again. The somewhat long experiment with WSL2 on Windows 11 wasn't a failure, but the annoyances finally got to me (wonky file handling, wonky Docker integration, wonky hot reload in Node (wtf)).

If you're interested in building and designing trust and safety tooling that combats abuse not only for Bluesky but for the broader ATmosphere at large - and especially if you want to make the internet a safer place - we have multiple T&S engineering roles open.

I hear and see your concerns. Over the weekend, a couple users hosted on Blacksky's PDS were banned from the Bluesky app and thus the Bluesky API servers. This was a weakness of our system I've been aware of and hoped we had more time to address before any kind of public incident. 1/11

Amazing! Get on in here folks!

The Toronto feed got migrated and improved. Instead of being purely driven by filtering the main feed, it now combines that with a list, which can be separately curated, of local accounts whose posts go in mostly wholesale. Effectively trivial with @graze.social, this gives me a lot of ideas.

Can we get the word around for more donations to go to BlackSky so thereโ€™s funding for the infrastructure that can bring Link back? From my understanding: Relays are costly and expensive. Anyone feel free to chime in. Bluesky relays is what has him banned. opencollective.com/blacksky

Relays are cheap, appviews a bit more. Basically everything is cheap except an app that indexes & searches everything ever posted. For $30 you could get a multi day window of everything.

Boris@bmann.ca

A relay costs $30/month to run, with all posts for 40M+ accounts in a 24 - 72 hour window - see compare.hose.cam The entire network appview index costs about $250/month to run, with all posts to the beginning. These are cheap for infra at this scale. People & moderation scanning are expensive.

We've been working to build up a list to keep track of people and projects within the ATproto ecosystem. If there's anyone we've missed, let us know!

the sad reality of 2025 is that a large swath of folks have been driven to believe the only value they may have to offer to the internet is to be the product of a company. that needs to change. even folks who say they donโ€™t want to be the product cannot fathom not being the productโ€ฆ
