1/ 🏨 Too many aparthotels?Too much student accommodation? Worried about the loss of homes to short-term lets?
Here’s the important bit: by the time a planning application arrives, the rules it will be judged against will already have been written.
That’s why CITY PLAN 2040 matters.
Looks as if they (Edinburgh Council) are planning for a prolonged outage ?
We have had no further communication on this & unaware of any works to resolve.
This is far from satisfactory (....an understatement).
Permanent barrier on Powderhall Bridge.
Edinburgh Council have now spent more money blocking access than on last 10 years of maintainence.
No waymarked diversion
No plan for repair
No communication with local community

Really hard to understand why someone would do this in the first place - a better understanding of the cause is key to reducing incidences such as this.
Credit to @caltonhill.bsky.social for raising the issue & for @edinburghcouncil.bsky.social for removing expediently.
UPDATE: the graffiti was removed by the Council 'Specialist Jet Washing Team' during the weekend (18/19 July 2026). We are grateful for their prompt action.
NTBCC is looking to engage with residents and are looking for suggestions for places to meet.

A 'Top Up' tap' would be a useful addition here - there's also a suggestion that (at last) Edinburgh Council (CEC) may actually replace the 4 (at the time of posting) dead trees in the next month or so - this would demonstrate a semblance of commitment by CEC to this neglected public realm.

💧 The Council has published a report to my request for greater water access for people and plants across Edinburgh, esp in parks.
Another good thing to come out of it too is the installation of a Scottish Water tap at Picardy Place now back on track: democracy.edinburgh.gov.uk/documents/s9...

We're pleased to welcome Terry Levinthal who will provide an update on @edinburghwh.bsky.social activities & answer questions - everyone very welcome.
@believeinscotland.bsky.social The Trust have received no information about this from @edinburghcouncil.bsky.social. Will the rally be on hard standing/car park? Grassed areas on the hill are easily damaged. An erosion emergency was declared last year. 300 sq. metres are fenced off. Please advise.
🏴 Believe in Scotland has changed the planned rally location for our Edinburgh March and Rally for Scottish Independence to the iconic Calton Hill: www.believeinscotland.org/believe_in_s...
As expected, the Council's decision to refuse this application has been appealed to the Scottish Reporter (DPEA). Details of the grounds for appeal not yet available.

Long list of agenda topics to suit all tastes (but too numerous to mention) - come along - everyone welcome.
Agree the current building there has clearly reached end-of-life & there was a growing expectation a redevelopment scheme would be brought forwards.
However, whilst the replacement is functional & the use there is fully supported, it's actually a scheme that lacks ambition ?

CHARLOTTE SQUARE PROJECT – NTBCC has significant concerns regarding the 'Improving Charlotte Square Project' & specifically the Phase 3 Preliminary Designs.
LSEG joins @ntbcc.bsky.social and the Access Panel for a statement about CEC plans for cycling in Rose Street.
The report doesn't address concern at impacts on pedestrians (especially disabled). We hope councillors will reject the recommendations.

We have also been contacted as the path crosses both NTBCC & LCCC's areas.
The issue will be on the NTBCC meeting agenda on Monday 8 December.
More to follow.
🚧 St Mark’s Path closure – update Many of you have been in touch about the sudden closure of St Mark’s Path at Powderhall — an important walking, wheeling and cycling link on Quiet Route 20. We’ve been following up to get clarity.
Elm Row still isn’t working as it should — unfinished works are causing confusion for everyone using it.
LCCC is working with WELM and Cllr Jack Caldwell to press the Council for progress on safety, parking and the missing sculptures.
Some fixes are due this month — we’ll share updates soon.
Unfortunately the PORTALOOS located on Regent Walk continue to be a target for VANDALISM. The only vandals in 2024 were the seagulls, but from spring 2025 we've had a series of incidents.

Well, it seems that our prognosis of the chosen provider turned out to be correct....
The council says it is “working with Voi to establish a date when the public will be able to use the scheme as soon as possible."
theedinburghreporter.co.uk/2025/08/coun...
Seems the target is now "in the month of August" - nevertheless, it does seem a little rushed based on progress so far ?
(We'd also heard that Voi Cycles may be' in the frame', so to speak).
To support of Edinburgh Council's initiative to improve local neighbourhoods ('Pride in Our City') - we're gathering residents' views via a survey so that we can highlight any concerns / issues to the Council.
