For any of you who have ever seen an Emmylou set or watched Buddy Miller’s Cavalcade of Stars, you will enjoy this glimpse into one of our biggest secret weapons, Maple Byrne. #emmylouharris #buddymiller #maplebyrne

The ten track album—co-produced by Johnson and Paul Bryan, featuring contributions from Meshell Ndegeocello, Macie Stewart, Marquis Hill, Ben Lumsdaine, and others—blends skeletal soul-jazz, post-bop, electronic minimalism, and dreamy ambience.

The lyrics on 'Confessions'—inspired by or culled from video and commentary the pair found on YouTube—are simple, matter-of-fact, fragmentary, funny, and strange, yet they attain a dignity paired with the music composed and arranged for @hollandbaroque.bsky.social, which performs it on the album.

In today’s Nonesuch Ninety—the week’s Nonesuch news in less than 90 seconds—GRAMMY Awards, @stevereich.bsky.social in the NY Times, new Brad Mehldau and Tortoise music, Laurie Anderson's rules to live by, the weekend’s live music, and four album anniversaries.

The album also features 'Electric Guitar Phase,' performed by Dominic Frasca; 'Music for Large Ensemble,' performed by Alarm Will Sound and Ossia and conductor Alan Pierson; and 'Tokyo/Vermont Counterpoint,' performed by Mika Yoshida on MIDI marimba.

Laurie Anderson shared her and Lou Reed’s three rules to live by at Return of the Buffalo: Tatanka Owe Akupi on the Brooklyn waterfront last month.

It was 10 years ago today: Conor Oberst's 'Ruminations' was released on Nonesuch. Five years later came the 2021 'Ruminations (Expanded Edition)' with five bonus tracks, four of which were previously unreleased. You can get the album and hear it at conoroberst.lnk.to/ruminations

In winter 2016, Oberst had found himself hibernating in his hometown of Omaha after living in NYC for more than a decade. He emerged with the unexpectedly raw, unadorned solo album 'Ruminations.' The results are almost sketch-like in their sparseness: him alone with his guitar, piano, and harmonica.
