Hilarious listening to broadcast news today trying their best to explain what a PHP vulnerability is, without having the first clue themselves. Something, something, AI, something, reset your passwords, something, hackers, something...

Forget AI, after 21 major versions of Adobe InDesign, we still can't have a referenced footnote set in a non-threaded frame. Does my head in.

Despite checking boxes, confirming cancelation and declining offers begging him to stay, my father has to speak to Ionos on the phone before they will cancel his sub-par email service. Funny they don't insist on a phone call to sign up 😒

Folks, you don't need AI to check color contrasts. You also don't need AI, to get suggestions for colors that pass the contrast ratio. It's pure, good, old math formula. Not everything needs to be "AI". Also, here are many, color contrast tools and more to help you build accessible color palettes:

When I first stated working in International Development, this is was one of the first things I remember being impacted by. In those days it was via a Gall–Peters projection map we had on the wall in the office.

One of the most common criticisms of the Mercator map is that it exaggerates the size of countries nearer the poles while downplaying the size of those near the equator. With this tool, you can play around and compare the actual size of countries: www.thetruesize.com/

CSS Tip If you want to hide an element that has no children, it's tempting to reach for :empty. However, :empty doesn't work how you'd expect if there's white space or text nodes inside the element. Instead, use this: .your-element:not(:has(:first-child)) { display: none; }

See you there!

This is cool, two of my favourite WordPress plugins have hooked up! Both have had major updates recently, making them a proper power-couple now. Move over Posh & Becks, Barak & Michelle, Elton and Kiki... S+F Pro & Generate Blocks are where it's at 😂

Ross Morsali@ross-m.bsky.social

I've been resisting the urge to tell people about this one the last few months - super excited about the new GenerateBlocks 2.0 Integration for Search & Filter! 🥳 Check out the full length video and blog post here: searchandfilter.com/generate-blo...

For the record, I do not recommend tipping your flat white over your Apple 'Magic' keyboard. It's glued together and impossible to disassemble to clean 🤬

From the perspective of Brit, it's shocking watching the goings-on in the US. Is the strategy just to burn down much of what made America great? It makes no sense. I dearly hope it's the wakeup call we need as Europeans.

Anyone using Brave browser on a mac having issues with your USB webcam running at low frame rate in Google Meet recently? All fine in Safari. Very odd.

Wishing all the best to those working for NGOs and local partners affected by the immediate pause of USAID funding by the Trump administration. Inconsequential in the grand scheme, but we just has some work cancelled as a result. The client described the action as feeling like the 'nuclear option'.

I’ve been working with WordPress since 2006, and while I have—and will continue to—advocate for the software, it’s the people who matter most. This community is its heartbeat, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to stand with those passionate about shaping its future. 🙏

Never in my years around WordPress have I seen so many folks who build sites for clients openly musing about possible alternatives. The leadership may no longer care for 'the community' or 'the ecosystem', for whatever reason, but it's these two factors that, IMO, give WP its superpowers. It's sad.

My manifesto for a better 2025: 1. No billionaire to be allowed access to the internet. 2. All techbros must have decisions signed off by a responsible adult. 3. All weapons capable of killing more than one being to be substituted with a basic Nerf gun, or feather duster (in the case of dictators).

Is there an optimal resolution for sharing images in BSky? Uploading at hi res seems to result in horrific compression being applied (much more so than the bird app).

Design has a function/purpose. Art can exist for its own sake. Don’t use either as a justification for exclusion.

Q: Are art and design the same thing? A: No. They are not. Here's why, in a small nutshell: Design: – usually meant to be interacted with: active use, rather than passive reception – usually providing a practical solution to a problem – usually not unique, but scalable

Please, plugin developers, include your product name or trading name in your recurring billing notifications. Non-technical book-keepers etc don't know what the heck 'Rocketgenius' is when they come to do reconciliation 🤪

Fresh MacOS install done. Desk (kinda) tidy. Been out for breakfast now both kids are back at school. Suppose I should do some actual work now.

Doctor and physio have instructed me to walk more… so my motivation it to take and share a photo a day. Here’s the first, from about an hour ago.

On the twelfth day of Devmas, my mutual sent to me: 12 coders coding, 11 pipelines running, 10 loading shimmers, 9 styles cascading, 8 breaking changes, 7 daily stand ups, 6 tests are flakey, 5 we-eb riiings! 4 callbacks passed, 3 code pens, 2 purple <div>s, And a <body> in a DOM tree.

Finally deactivated my Twitter account today, having joined back in 2009. Kinda therapeutic. (If you've had a apparently random follow from me just now over there, it is in fact me. I moved my old handle to a new account to keep it from being re-used and followed a few WP folks)

Discovered today that you can now secure any app with FaceID on iOS 18. Helpful with the proliferation of scrotes snatching phones while unlocked. Crucially, works with Mail. Simply long-press an app icon to enable.
