My toddler's current thing is counting things without knowing any numbers. He'll put his toys in a chest one by one and go "zop, sasa, haik..." and he's really proud when he's finished counting. I feel like there's an AI metaphor in there somewhere 😅

A11y experts should start selling "Agentic AI Optimization" packages and just bring as many sites up to WCAG standards before the hype dies down 🚀

Simon Willison@simonwillison.net

It's neat to see them encourage developers to add ARIA tags to pages though, an "agent" can be thought of as effectively another form of assistive technology

I wonder if that will make devs care more about a11y - to make it accessible for AI

This is it. 86,791 words. 836 emdashes. 625 `const`, 141 `let`, 16 `var`. One (1) reference to the pause music from Battletoads for the NES. Spread the word: JavaScript for Everyone launches tomorrow.

You'd think that opting out once is all you need, surely no reasonable person would assume that Microsoft would randomly enable this feature again without consent, right? ... Riiiight?

OK @kevinpowell.co has written what has to be one of the best (if not THE best) practical article to #CSS colors I have read in a while. piccalil.li/blog/a-pragm... Easy to read, practical examples, and *perfect* for someone like me who's fallen behind and hasn't kept up with all the new stuff.

piccalil.liA pragmatic guide to modern CSS colours - part oneWhether you've got a firm grasp on modern CSS colour capabilities, or you're thinking 'I struggle to understand why I should use modern CSS colours at all', then the first part of this article series,...

Dev trick: imagine page weight as *actual weight* on a plane. "Sir your luggage comes in at 684 lbs, that'll be $7.000 extra. What the hell did you pack?" "Well you know how eagles are really cool?"

The fax machine is a bit too much, other than that I pretty much grew up here

Hey, 90s kids! Your bedroom is now in a museum! (Prague's National Museum, if you want to make a complaint.)

I'm also "sabotaging" my toddler's "strategy" of eating dirt, AMA

AI cannot fail, it can only be sabotaged. You must stay ever-vigilant against Trotskyist wreckers.

This mufugga still haunts my dreams

What was the first video game that scared you? It doesn't have to be a horror game. Maybe you didn't even play it -- plenty of ads freaked me out as a kid.

Hearing more and more stories about companies reprimanding employees for *not* using AI. Don't think I've ever seen new tech forced so much down people's throats.

Imagine doctors being told most of their diagnosis has to be based on a magic 8ball, or they're fired. Thats what they're doing to bigcorp software devs.

I'm lucky enough to run my own company, but if I was looking for work and this was a requirement, I wouldn't know how to handle it.

The order of science: 1.) Discover there’s a deadly problem 2.) Work for years to solve it 3.) The problem may not be gone forever, but we’ve won 4.) People forget the deadly problem actually existed 5.) People decide this must mean the science to solve it was a hoax 6.) The deadly problem returns

Practical Accessibility Test: holding my 8-month-old son with one hand and trying to fill out a web form on my phone with the other.

I'm fixing up an old mountain bike that's been in the shed for 15 years. Some parts need replacing, but all in all pretty straightforward. I wish software worked like that. If I try to fix a 15yo website, I'd spend days fighting deprecated dependencies.

Working on a Shopify/Sanity/Eleventy project (a headless e-commerce thing) and boy that's a nice stack. Feels very close to the metal, 100% control of the data structures and markup. 🚀
