Apparently for fixed price work they charge 5% to clients and 10% to freelancers? On top of holding the funds in escrow and getting interest on them? Fuck this place.
Still can't believe that Upwork locked me out and refuses to unlock any of my accounts because I had two separate ones: one for software development and one for legal work.
How the fuck are so many people whiffing so much on this movie? Like 90% of the reviews are insanely positive and then the other 10% is really stupid shit like this. reason.com/2026/10/26/n...

Richard Hanania's primary idea as a thinker is to flatter whoever holds power. Right now, that’s liberals--given the profound backlash against MAGA. Letting him in means admitting liberalism has room for someone who talks like an unreconstructed fascist.
Had such a blast talking about Richard Hanania - fascist dweeb turned centrist darling - with the great @jaredlholt.bsky.social, @michaelehayden.bsky.social & @henryburke.bsky.social for the latest Posting Through It www.patreon.com/PostingThrou...
If you read stuff like this and don't start to wonder whether there's a better system of government than one that basically relies on having more people that disagree with it than agree with it...
"But what do we do with the gifted kids, they'll just sit in class and twiddle their thumbs?" I don't know, I guess it's impossible for them to help their classmates, or work on a project in class that uses their curiosity and also teaches their classmates something. <shrug> Guess we can't!

stumbled on a set of incredible 1970s illustrations in some government reports, so had to spend a day collecting them into a website to share with my friends on the computer: nickseaver.net/paperwork
I am broadly against governments nationalizing private companies but from a public policy standpoint this is probably one of the more justifiable scenarios. apnews.com/article/russ...

yeah it's seemingly hard to internalize how expensive programmers are. chillsky, a whole ass bsky client that you can use, cost me ~a dollar of my subscription, but would have been ~$100 at api rates but it would have cost ~$10,000 as contract work (a cheap senior engineer-month)
Anyway they (Ant/OAI) are sorta subsidizing the consumer market but the consumer market isn’t the market, B2B is, and the goal is to get people using the product at home and then persuading their employers to pay full price for it
Note how he thinks a "Columbia MA" is something that would be something likely to net him a good paying job. (It was in political science.)
I have brought it up many times, especially the story of how I finally ended washing cars and driving a taxi in the mid-80s with a Columbia MA. I was never unemployed for long because I was willing to take crappy jobs, as long as they gave me a weekly paycheck.
Guy who has never not had a job: it's easy not to work
The article is not a 20 page research paper. It's a summary of a lot of trends, including research that looks back to the late 20th century. (My pet theory: Look closely at what happens after passing the ADA.) But the reality is that young men don't work because it's easy not to work.
