I'm going to try to do this cleanly. Today's right wing governments are networked to each other. Those networks are well-documented. You can read about them in books. Following the elections in one node of that network is good practice for understanding the U.S. node.

I just think Matt's wrong about this. We're at a point in our technological development where a ton of problems spill over national borders--if Flavio Bolsonaro burns down the Amazon, that will flood houses in Miami.

I will be eternally grateful to have been born in a literate culture where literacy was valued and expected and I still had the time, attention, and freedom to develop a literacy practice. Understanding context, inference, vocabulary, perspective, affect — all powerful, useful skills and values.

Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

"Reading the World" is a new documentary about Paulo Freire, the acclaimed Brazilian educator whose revolutionary approach to teaching connected literacy to critical thinking and democratic participation. We speak with one of its co-directors and a consulting producer.

This has gotten worse in the last decade or so. It’s become difficult to talk with people I genuinely like. And the moral binary of typical/divergent has codified into the belief that it’s more important for people to talk than it is for others to feel heard. www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle...

New York City is banning the use of generative artificial intelligence for public school students from 2K through 8th grade, part of a larger move to restrict classroom technology in the nation’s largest school district. https://cnn.it/4iGlH79

BUT REALLY FOLKS WHEN ARE YOU MAKING LUNCH?!?! #edusky also, as a parent: I'd add going over morning routine with your own kids too!

When back-to-school season comes around, everyone talks about lesson planning and classroom setup. Not as many people talk about getting enough sleep, eating lunch every day, and prioritizing the people and practices that sustain you outside of school.

I wrote about this pattern. The New York Times has been asking how women should change. Today, Scott Galloway is asked about struggling young men and what society can do to help them. Why do we keep asking women to adapt while asking what society can do to help men? msmagazine.com/2026/07/31/n...

It’s often necessary and energizing to mobilize through shared opposition. But this form of solidarity will always stagnate if we can’t also recognize what we love in common and imagine what we hope to build together. As usual, I think the preschool classroom offers some wisdom in finding balance.

Also these are rhetorical questions, fam. I teach classes on Critical Race Theory, and criminalization and abolition in education. I know the answers. If you don't, I suggest you read things. You can start here an oldie but classic: hechingerreport.org/opinion-usin...

Please don’t apologize. Your thread is great! 😊

What I do with my students is broadly (though not exactly) similar to what the article describes. My own approach is perpetually a work in progress, but I feel like it mostly works well for my students and for me. (Apologies for the long thread incoming!)

best thing right now: staying curious about what other teachers are doing in different classrooms, asking questions and engaging in conversation, and figuring this out together. pieces like this? a huge win

Confronted with a rapidly evolving technology, many educators have little precedent to draw on when creating classroom-level AI policy. For @edutopia.org, I asked 8 educators across disciplines/ grade levels how they establish shared values + expectations about AI use in their classrooms:

Listen, once the consumer tech made us FEEL good/right/in control? Our libidinal desires took over. we are “feeling” our way right into corporate sovereignty and ceremonial government.

It is a totalitarian nightmare but because end users FEEL in control of it they desire it or at least accept it. This tech might be slightly more benign if not for the cloud elements to it, but there is the rub.

My latest: I don’t respect America at 250. The only thing I can think of is how America is still a young, spoiled brat of a nation that no one is able to discipline. Foreign writers have been commenting on the US's developmental problems for centuries. karenattiah.substack.com/p/america-ne...
