I've made a new bot (no LLM horseshit) that makes up silly Star Gate SG-1 episode summaries using tracery, you can follow it right here: @randostargate.bsky.social
If you're thinking that sounds very familiar, that's because I also made one for Star Trek: @randostartrek.bsky.social
I've made 6 open-source @godotengine.org projects perfect for as a base for your first or next game. Completely human-made and easy to understand code & comments. All visuals and sounds included, CC0!

I feel it's important to share this again. The internet is so hostile toward creators nowadays. I've seen people have their work stolen, and no longer feel comfortable sharing their creations. We can do better.
Let's be supportive to the people that make this a better place! 💞
Feeling down about the AI focused re-launch of a certain game jam? fear not, I am putting together a week long gamejam celebrating Human Made creations, come join us and make some cool stuff in the Hand Crafted Jam. itch.io/jam/hand-cra...#GameDev#IndieDev
There’s a new KO-35 amplifier out from Teenage Engineering and it has a wacky feature of USB-C I’ve never seen anywhere else before. The amp works for electric guitars, XLR microphones even with phantom power, it also has a few other inputs and outputs.
The amp looks awesome, I want it to make music but don’t have $400 to spend due in no small part due to one of the ioquake3 sponsors dropping their support for open source software at a time when it seems like there is infinite money for bad people getting into open source.

…connected through
the cable and identify the Configuration Lane for dual-lane operation when supported. This
allows for signal routing, if needed, within a host or device to be established for a successful
connection.

TE used this to their advantage and the amp plays off of a different folder of music on the thumb drive depending on that orientation.
I looked up the USB spec and sure enough:
2.3.2 Plug Orientation/Cable Twist Detection
The USB Type-C plug can be inserted into a receptacle in either one of two orientations,
therefore the CC pins enable a method for detecting plug orientation in order to determine
the lane ordering of the SuperSpeed USB data signal pairs functionally…

Although TE hired someone to make a video explaining the AMP, the video doesn’t explain the technical details. Buuut someone asked in the YouTube comments how the usb thumb drive with two sides works and they got a reply!
There are 24 pins on a USB-C plug, 12 on each side so it works no matter which way you plug in your thumb drive. Buuut, the pintout isn’t identical on both sides which means the device you plug the drive into can detect the plug’s orientation!

Here’s where the wacky feature comes in. The USB-C thumb drive has an A side and a B side like a cassette tape or a vinyl record. Depending on which way you plug in the drive, you get different backing tracks!!!
I had no idea how this works, it’s not a feature I’ve ever seen before on other USB Type-C hardware. TE mentions the feature on the product page but nothing explains the technical details of how.

A few usb-c ports are scattered over the amp. Hook it up to your phone or computer and you’ll get a multi-channel USB sound card that you can sample from. Hook up the sproingy usb fm-radio antenna accessory that via usb-c and you can listen to the radio or sample from it to your connected devices.
TE sells a thumb-drive accessory that includes some backing tracks for your guitar or other instrument to play over. The drive audio automatically starts playing when inserted but you can control it with the controls on the amp and replace the backing tracks. Normal USB stuff so far.

Part of my literal job is to fly out to physical game studios to rescue and recover historical materials that might be endangered and put them in a permanent archive. @gamehistoryorg.bsky.social is a 501(c)3 publicly funded to do that, my DMs are open, and I'm free for the next couple weeks...
So it's my birthday, and I'm currently the only one of three disabled trans people in my household who can work, but 16 months of being bedridden and ongoing chronic migraines have left us very broke. If you'd like to send a few dollars as a gift, that'd be very appreciated!

My friend Crys needs some help on GoFundMe. If you can, please consider supporting by donating or sharing the link. Every bit of support makes a huge difference.
at some point windows 11 finally added an option to hide your name and profile picture from the start menu, highly recommend that you do this if you're a streamer who doesn't want to blast your real name out there.
Yes, the internet, foss, society, and the climate got destroyed. But for a beautiful moment in time we didn't even create a lot of value for shareholders because AI was never actually profitable.
seems like there's a couple of vibecoded painting apps being announced lately..
..so I just wanted to mention that there's also a new NOT vibecoded painting app being developed, that's awesome already, called @kalapaint.bsky.socialbsky.app/profile/kala...
Kala Paint is out!
I'm @olawson.bsky.social , professional artist for 15 years, then game dev, now wrote the painting software I wish I'd been using all this time.
