70 percent of the internet was vulnerable yesterday to very bad security flaws inside a coding language. Turns out, *one volunteer* is mostly responsible for maintaining that code & helping push updates. Yesterday Ondřej Surý saved the internet. So I called him up www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...

Not a single word of this is hyperbolic in the slightest. Buy your friends in cybersecurity the drink or chocolate of their choice right now. We are not doing well
wrote about "Black October," the PHP vulnerability, and the AI-fueled dread and panic I'm seeing among almost all of the cybersecurity experts I've ever known. I think people w/ LLMs are brute forcing software the same way they brute forced social media w/ slop www.404media.co/php2shell-bl...

Security through obscurity is a terrible principle but in practice a lot of things didn't get hacked bc people ignored them, or didn't know they existed, or just generally got missed. AI makes it easy to probe all of these things at scale + makes it easier to find/develop exploits

I'm looking forward to exploring the @codepen.io API. I've set up a selection of CodePen demos on my personal site, but they're forks that either diverge or have to be manually kept in sync. The API will let me use my local development workflow to keep self-hosted and CodePen-hosted pens in sync.
DID YOU KNOW: @codepen.io has a read/write API? blog.codepen.io/docs/api/api... Comes in GraphQL & Rest flavors so you can use what's best for your task. Updating a Pen is super easy and seamless.

For a while I've viewed my website as my digital playground, so naturally last week's Webmention adventure—plus all the amazing blogs I've been diving into via RSS lately —have me wanting to get more involved with the #IndieWeb community. aboutmonica.com/blog/hello-i...

We don't spend a penny on marketing. It's all word of mouth for @costplusdrugs.com That's how we keep prices so low. Please spread the word !
I've been playing around with adjusting my Webmention workflow all week! Here's an overview of my current Webmention implementation and how I'm using GitHub Actions to review incoming Webmentions. aboutmonica.com/blog/automat...
I used @remysharp.com's handy CLI tool to send a handful of Webmentions to some people who shared helpful info about their Webmention implementation like @dwayne.xyz , @jamesg.blog.web.brid.gy, @localghost.dev & @petergoes.bsky.social. I'm still sorting out a flow for automatically sending these!
There's no shortage of ways math can be used in #CreativeCoding to generate visuals, like this donut-shaped Clifford Attractor that uses linear interpolation for color distribution. 🎨 aboutmonica.com/blog/craftin... 🍩 paulbourke.net/fractals/cli...
In addition to the Clifford Attractor formula, Paul Bourke has a whole collection of fractals, chaos, and attractors: paulbourke.net/fractals/

I noticed someone mentioning that they couldn't afford "How Git Works" right now. we have a "buy one give one" program where we give away 1 free copy for every zine sold. You can use code BUYONEGIVEONE to get a free PDF copy of How Git Works if $12 is a lot for you. wizardzines.com/zines/git/

The coolest thing I’ve seen today is that a bunch of volunteer public health professionals and developers have restored the CDC website from before January 20th 2025. This differs from an archive in that they want to rebuild the links between pages and replicate the full website.

at sxsw, @jay.bsky.team pokes fun at mark zuckerberg by mimicking a version of a t-shirt he designed for himself, which said "aut zuck aut nihil" (either zuck or nothing, like "aut caesar aut nihil"). jay's shirt? "mundus sine caesaribus" (a world without caesars). techcrunch.com/2025/03/10/a...
Today I wrangled with Cloudflare's security settings to allow Brid.gy to read my site to know where to send my webmentions, rewrote how I'm fetching/storing mentions & automated GitHub Actions 🤖 to open a Pull Request with new mentions for me to review based off of: www.petergoes.nl/blog/review-...

Good news! This mention showed up on @ap.brid.gy but now I need to sort out how to funnel the data to webmention.io. Then we'll be in business. I'm currently displaying some of my older webmentions.

I've re-wired webmentions on my site, so now likes and mentions of my articles on @bsky.app will (eventually*) appear on my site! *It's not fully automated yet, because I ran into an issue with Cloudflare's bot protection blocking brid.gy requests 🤖
