A lot of work goes into planning and running a tech event. Here are some thoughts I put together the day after @stirtrek.com

There was a time when I balked at having AI write my commit comments or PR descriptions, but now? Why would I when it does a more thorough job than I'd ever do myself.

Walk Slower: A case for unhurried things

I'm trying something new. I got tired of Medium and all its shenanigans. This is where I write about community, leadership, the craft of software, and intentional growth — for the people who are in it for the long haul.

OMG! THE Cory House! :-) Looking forward to seeing him again at this year's event!

We've got a puzzle for you to solve. There have been lots of questions about what movie will be shown at Stir Trek this year, and we decided to make it a contest for the first person to guess correctly. Here's your only clue.

Tickets for Stir Trek 2026 are now available at Early Bird and Super Early Bird pricing (first 50 sales only). Get them now before they go up in price. events.humanitix.com/stir-trek-20...

Reminder: Stir Trek tickets go on sale in 24 hours and we have limited super early bird pricing for the first 50 tickets sold. Set your clocks for noon tomorrow!

It's happening! Tickets for Stir Trek 2026 go on sale next Tuesday the 24th at noon! We're offering Super Early Bird ticket rates for the first 50 purchases before shifting to early bird pricing for the May 1st event. Stay tuned for details on movies! stirtrek.com

We just sent out our speaker acceptance notices, and the lineup is looking fantastic. Later today, we’ll be sending the rest of the notifications to everyone who submitted. Excited for May 1! Don't forget, tickets go on sale on Tuesday, February 24 at noon eastern!

I found a new question for standup that makes a lot of sense, and gets the team focused on what's important rather than the laundry list of things they did yesterday. Check it out! #leadership #agile

I wrote this a couple years ago, and as I sit on standup with a new team, I can't help but be frustrated as each developer lists EVERY SINGLE THING they did yesterday. Ugh. samestuffdifferentday.net/2023/02/14/t...

Our Call for Volunteers if Open! Each year we have a great team of volunteers who help us put on our show. If you'd like to join, please submit your info via this form and let us know how you'd like to help! docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...

Submit your sessions, workshops, and keynotes to the TechBash 2025 call for speakers now through March 31st. https://zc.vg/zNAxA?m=0 #techevent #poconos #devconference #developers #cfp #callforpapers #callforspeakers #kalahari

I have a website deployed as an Azure App Service. For some reason, robots.txt is not accessible to the search engines and I don't know why. I've looked at two other sites deployed in the same fashion, but don't have the same problem. I've looked at configs, permissions, etc. Any ideas?

Get your session submissions in for @stirtrek.com before CFP closes tonight! Looking forward to reviewing the great submissions 📄👀👍

People who sit in waiting rooms watching videos with the volume turned up deserve their own special place in hell.

I saw someone on LI post that they created their GitHub account 16 years ago, so I had to see when I created mine. 15 years, 8 months, 22 days ago on March 13, 2009 Damn. Seems like just yesterday I was using VSS or Vault/SourceOffsite for everything. :-)

I hate creating architectural diagrams

🏨 Part of what makes #CodeMash so great is staying onsite with all the other attendees. The hotel room block fills up quickly and we only have about 29 rooms left. If you've been dragging your feet on registering, this is your sign to do that today! #DeveloperCommunity #MidwestTech

Working on an assessment for a client. Does the term "Technical Debt" adequately cover the instances of long out of date components and libraries? Can anyone think of a better term?

I left that other site a few years ago, although I did come back for a bit and used it as a write-only way to publicize blog posts. I wrote this in 2022. I still struggle with social media even though I do see some value in it.

I'm working on this year's @csadvent.christmas post (coming up on December 8) and have been looking over my posts from the last couple years. This was my C# Advent post from December 15, 2022! It was a fun one to write! samestuffdifferentday.net/2022/12/16/1...

I'm looking for good books about software testing. Any recommendations?

I spoke at conferences/user groups steadily from 2008-2019 then got burned out and stopped. Yesterday was my 20th and final scheduled talk of 2024. This year was an experiment to see if I wanted to get back into speaking after that break. I'm still not sure how I feel, or what I'll do in 2025.

Want to get rid of reposts on Bluesky? It already exists. 👇 Here's a custom feed that shows posts from people you follow without reposts and replies bsky.app/profile/did:... Pin it and you switch to this when you only want to see posts.

On a new project. Following the README, trying to get things running. Get a stream of errors on the first app I try to build. "Oh, that's normal. It'll still work." Go to the next app...SAME THING. 3rd app...SAME THING. Good times. I think I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue.
