New music from Hybrid! It’s a mix, but lots of “and additional production by” going on. www.youtube.com/live/2RvgUac... I’ve been a fan for a very long time. Always loved their cinematic / trance / breaks style.

Feels like AWS Lambda didn't do much new for 5 years, and now we get the second new version of it this year - Web Functions (plus MicroVMs earlier in the year). I don't know who's running Lambda these days but good to see some renewed activity. aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/an...

Visited the Sagrada Família in Barcelona and, despite my usual mixed feelings about churches, this one is pure joy and an embrace of nature. The way it plays with light, form, texture, and material, with a message of welcomeness, is unique for any church I've visited. A wonder of the modern world.

Visiting Dublin for 3 days and it’s incredible yet sadly unsurprising that I didn’t get taught *any* Irish history in my English schools - let alone what happened in the early 20th C. Would have been useful context for what the IRA were doing while I was growing up in the UK in the 80s and 90s.

Holtzmann is the best Ghostbuster. (He says after watching the 2016 movie again)

The iPhone Duo is to well-to-do parents-of-younger-than-teenage-kids what the Watch Ultra was for bros at the gym

Went out dancing to Underworld on Friday, then Jeff Mills, Helena Hauff (amazing!), Ben UFO and Craig Richards yesterday. Tired but very happy. So glad I started doing this again.

23 YEARS AGO TODAY, @mrweebl.bsky.social posted BADGERS to @Newgrounds.com

Rainbow over Prospect Park this morning #nyc

I haven't particularly followed English domestic football (soccer) for 30 years but the World Cup made me interested again. And like many British-born people I've known which team I support since before I could walk. Which is all to say I could have picked a better day to restart being a #Spurs fan.

Newspapers channeling deep “we’re just trying to find the guy that did this” vibes today. The damn ghouls.

Happy Zero Cool Day to all who celebrate #hackers

William Orbit died. While he was best known for producing / co-creating Madonna’s Ray of Light album, I used to listen to his solo Strange Cargo 3 and Hinterland albums on repeat when I was at university. This is Water from a Vine Leaf, with Beth Orton on vocals, from then: youtu.be/PneAIfv30jA?...

Turns out you can go to your first hard trance night of your life at age 48 and it’s all fine. Not sure I’ll do that specific type of music too often, but because NYC has such a huge dance music scene, it turns out, I have many other options.

Solitary brother Is there still a part of you that wants to live? Solitary sister Is there still a part of you that wants to give?

There might be nothing in life that makes me feel like a boomer as much as trying to use Youtube. Especially on iphone / Apple TV. The whole UX just never does what I expect. I know it's full of bugs and ad dark patterns, but still.

First vinyl of the year

I’ve played Factorio a A Lot (!), and for a long time I’ve wanted to try Satisfactory, but it’s not supported on Mac. Recently I finally got around to trying it with @codeweavers.com CrossOver Mac and it works very well on my M1 Studio. CrossOver isn’t free, but it’s a lot cheaper than buying a PC.

Last night's theatre was Death of a Salesman. Worthy of its Tony win (again), but I never expected to see Willy Loman as a failed Trump-like character. The play's words with this direction amplifies its damning indictment of the American dream. Lies, exceptionalism, bluster, that all ends in tragedy

It’s the hope that this hope will somehow be different from all the previous hopes that killed you that kills you…

So I have been using this for the last week and I absolutely love it. This is the browser based Claude Code dev environment running on AWS Lambda MicroVMs with S3Files as persistence. There are two blogs and a repo. Start here, it link to the others. edjgeek.com/blog/claude-...

Fun flight path into LGA tonight

This morning we (coincidentally!) drove through Lindsay Graham’s small home town. That was weird.

Rewatched The Good Place and I’m glad to report it remains one of the greatest comedy TV series. That last episode though, yeesh, it gets you right in the feels.

Not saying that game was stolen from Egypt but it is now on display at museum in London.

#NYC #theatre -goers : I saw Titanique last night and laughed harder than I have in a long time. I saw it off-off Broadway a few years back too and it’s even funnier than I remember. Jim Parsons is having the time of his life, but all the cast - old and new - are great. Fab, queer, & very silly.

Another day; another thing apparently I can’t say any more because it sounds like I’m an LLM

The Holy Father is also Bob from Chicago, and woe betide those who forget that he, too, contains two wolves.

As a vague supporter of the England football team over the last few decades, I am enjoying the schadenfreude of Germany being the first team ever to go out on penalties in a round-of-32 knockout World Cup match. That I can call it “schadenfreude” makes it even better. Sorry 🇩🇪 ;)

Two year rent freeze for rent stabilized apartments in NYC! Our mayor is having a good week. So are us New Yorkers!

My flight got canceled. I got hit by an egg in a drive-by. I had to take trains, planes, and automobiles. But NOTHING could stop me from seeing the Knicks on Saturday night. I wrote about the greatest sports weekend I will ever have and a strange joy we all now feel. hellgatenyc.com/knicks-fans-...

Every 5 years or so I put on Morcheeba's Big Calm, and wonder why I don't listen to it more frequently. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Calm

There are wonderful moments in NY where joy overflows into the street and no-one is a stranger. A Saturday lunchtime in mid November 2020 was one. Last night was another.

I ❤️ NY

GOOD MORNING NEW YORK CITY.

Best. Mayor. Ever. For lots of real reasons, but also this. www.theguardian.com/football/202... @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social

Round number birthday today. Hexadecimally speaking, anyway. #0x30

Glorious day in NYC today

I just used the phrase “a can of hairy yaks” and it’s the kind of mixed metaphor I can get behind.

Just remembered the time I tried to convince my friend Ian to enter into a shared custody grandmothering arrangement for the local men's hair stylist by telling him "Co-nan the barber, Ian"

Got a shingles vaccine on Friday. On one hand - yay for vaccines. On the other - glad I didn’t have anything planned for this weekend. :)

Cruella was a better movie than I expected. Good Friday evening fodder.

On the way back from a week and a half in the UK to see friends and family. Wished it could have been longer to see more people, but it was a great trip. Spent a lot of time in London and it’s still fab despite what all the doomer media would have us believe. Also trains, trains, and more trains.

Apparently it’s possible to just close all the tabs in your browser. I know - WILD.

extremely pleased with node:test these days. its super fast. there's nothing to install. has every feature for a runner I need. so much nicer than faffing with ecosystem test baggage.
