Nobody will tell you when your prototype becomes infrastructure. Your team knows it's an MVP. The people relying on it don't, and they have no reason to. I wrote my thoughts on how to spot the moment an experiment goes critical, and what to do about it.

Every tutorial teaches you how to get started. Almost none teach you what to do once your company depends on the thing you built. I've been calling that gap The Operator Problem โ€” and if you're hitting it, it usually means you did something right. mikebifulco.com/newsletter/o...

mikebifulco.comThe Operator Problem: What Startups Face After the MVPEvery tutorial teaches you to get started. Almost none teach you what to do once your startup depends on what you built - like the day a hidden Twilio limit silently cut off our busiest support rep.

Who's thinking about PKM nowadays? I was a very heavy Roam Research user for a long time, and later shifted to LogSeq, and then Obsidian... But I never stopped taking networked notes. This is what keeps me organized, and means I don't worry about forgetting things.

I really love my Pixel 10 Pro, and usually I'd be very excited about a Pixel 11, but... Everything has gotten too damn expensive to keep replacing this thing each year without a great reason. $499 _after_ giving back my current phone is a whole lotta skrilla.

I see some of my SC teacher friends going back to work today. August 10 seems criminally early to end summer break. I hope it's an easy day, y'all ๐Ÿซก

If you ever need evidence that we should be investing more in public education, join your local neighborhood facebook group. Reading comprehension, math & finances, collaboration, sharing resources... it's all there, and your least qualified neighbors will make themselves apparent.

One of OpenAPI's unsung heroes is its ability to be extended elegantly. You're gonna love @apievangelist.com's article on extensions. Also in this dispatch: Gin, the HTTP framework for Go, Upyo for sending email, Leaf Wiki, and the HTTP OPTIONS method. apisyouwonthate.com/newsletter/e...

In related news: this one may catch some side-eye from the Ruby on Rails community. Rails may be an ok option for a one man army, but it has created more problems for us than other paths. If you're a rubyist, keep doing your thing - it's just not been a good fit for us.

There is a silent threshold you'll cross on your path from MVP to a stable product business - you go from being a prototyper to an operator. There is very little documentation about what it's like to be an operator of XYZ service... and the game definitely changes at some point.

Twilio is my eternal bugbear for this, but plenty of other services have the same problems - Stripe, Cloudflare, Vercel, heck even random smaller pypi/gems/npm dependencies have all kinds of neat quirks and features that you donโ€™t find out about until someday-in-the-future

This was my favorite thing about working on the developer advocacy team at Stripe. I had the opportunity to create articles, videos, and events catering to people who were experiencing this part of the product lifecycle - docs aren't the perfect home for them, and I learned heaps from the community

Who are the baddest-assest-n8n automators on BlueSky? I'm getting into some hijinx this afternoon and could definitely benefit from having people-smarter-than-me to learn from

Just spent a very satisfying couple hours hooking together this and that for my partner's business. When she sells tickets to events, n8n listens for a stripe webhook, processes the purchase data and signs people up for her mailing list, and tags them. Up next: building out event spreadsheets!

It's really exciting for me to see so many people building software for the very first time - bumping into vibe-coded apps from people who have never written a line of code, imagine that! Are you working on a vibe coded project? I'd love to see it.

I've found myself reading through some of the app builder / vibe coder subreddits - it's really interesting to see how people think about building when they're not weighed down by decades of engineer-anxiety. I suppose that cuts both ways, too - but I am fascinated by how liberating it is!
