This is sexual violence as a form of terrorism. It is political violence and it is chilling and horrific, and AOC was absolutely right to be terrified that the goons (now pardoned) laying siege to the capital would rape her if they found her. Small changes won't fix this. FLIP THE TABLE NOW

NEW: In late 2024, FBI investigators had enough evidence to launch a sweeping bribery probe that could ensnare top lawmakers, including Sen. Susan Collins. Then Trump was reelected and eviscerated the FBI and DOJ teams handling public corruption probes.

The thing about this piece is she probably proved out her and her husband’s intent. The focus is on her child but through their efforts, probably many kids had better experiences at those schools; maybe better outcomes??? It was a harder path but her child still got directionally on a good footing.

New from Nikole Hannah-Jones: In fighting for every Black child, Did I betray my own? ‘A decade ago, I made a decision about my daughter’s education that I hoped would challenge NYC’s unequal school system. Now 16, she thinks I made the wrong choice’

On some level with the p(doom) AI scenarios, we're just assigning human motivations to a system that waits for human motivations to tell it to do anything. What we're really saying and we don't trust ourselves - which, fair.

Story time: so we go to get cupcakes on Sunday at this spot in Georgetown, spin the block once without finding anything, so come back around and just park across from the spot in this loading area. Family gets out to get the cupcakes, I stay in the car in case I gotta move it.

She goes: “I know, but you’re just standing there, I want to park there” I’m like “nah, I got kids, they’re just grabbing cupcakes” She says “you can just go park somewhere else illegally while you wait”

I chuckle, like she can't be serious, “I already did a lap around here and settled on parking here, nah” She scoffs and rolls away Couple things, 1. the entitlement, 2. fines didn’t mean shit to her, she was gonna park where ever she pleased

Other cars pass by trying to find parking on that same street, this benz truck pulls up to me, older lady, she flags me and down and is like, “can you move so I can park there?” and I’m like “this isn’t a real spot, it’d would be illegal to park here”

To target multiple classes with the same prefix, you'd typically have to resort to brittle attribute selectors. To make things easier, CSS is getting a new selector: the “Class Prefix Selector” (`.foo-*`). Check brm.us/class-prefix... to get the details. (Browser Support: None 😛 — just resolved!)

Years ago, there was this TED talk about the best way to eat an apple. Like, if you eat it from the top down, there is no "core" and you get "more" apple. I think about that every time I eat an apple and how I'm still never going to eat it that way.

You’re bubble is only a problem if it’s opaque. If you can “see” and accept other life outside your bubble, but still be in your bubble - that’s fine. The problem is when your bubble blurs your gaze of the outside. Twitter’s algo has unapologetically tilted toward that since Musk’s takeover.

i think, end of the day, the real problem with Bluesky is that most of its users are here *because* they want to be in a bubble. and they can tell themselves that it’s just about not being around Nazis it supporting Musk, and that’s part of it, but also there’s a palpable desire to be ensconced.

The modern United States has experienced 11 recessions. Ten have happened under Republican presidents. This isn’t a coincidence. They screw things up because they try to impose a fairy tale on the country. trib.al/6lz7qQx

trib.alWhen Will Americans Realize the Truth? Republicans Wreck the Economy.Donald Trump is different in many ways from the Republican presidents who preceded him. But there’s one way he’s exactly the same.

🔥take: actions DON’T speak louder than words if someone is always there for you but they’re always sneak complaining about you always needing them, it’s very easy to miss the fact that they are ALWAYS there for you
