One year ago we set sail into unknown waters leaving a then safe harbour behind. It feels to me like we crossed the sea and weathered the storms for a whole year. An emotional rollercoaster. Having reached shore a while ago and finally anchoring in a new harbour. Lots of change. No regrets.

Life lesson: When times are changing you better get ahead of the change. This takes tremendous courage. I learned this lesson the hard way once in my past when I stayed in my comfort zone and let change come to me.

Read this important thread. The Trump administration are not conservatives. They are radicals.

OMB director Russell Vought is MAGA's shrewdest operator. His interview with Tucker Carlson is a Rosetta Stone to decode what's happening right now. In this thread I summarize key points, plus time cues. Listen for yourself! www.youtube.com/watch?v=vydA...

Trump on NATO: "If the United States was in trouble and we called them. We said, 'We got a problem, France.' Do you think they're gonna come and protect us? Hmm. They're supposed to. I'm not so sure." (Literally the only time NATO Article 5 was invoked was after 9/11 on behalf of the US.)

Some thoughts while returning on the Eurostar from Paris. 1. It’s a cliché but nonetheless true that the intellectual culture in France reminds us what we are missing in the UK. 🧵

Bluesky has been flooded with automated reply bots - they'll offer a sort of confrontational opinion as a reply. They're pretty convincing and we all need to train ourselves to not reflexively reply to all responses until we check Dead giveaway is new acct, few followers + original posts

Dave wrote Facebook’s first content moderation rules and is the least hysterical person I know. If he says Meta’s changes are politically designed to accommodate Trump, believe him. 👇🏻

Dave Willner@dwillner.bsky.social

Instead, these below-the-fold changes are very clearly designed to avoid having to penalize people like Trump and Marjorie Taylor Greene for the increasingly dehumanizing language they use against these specific groups. You can tell because of the changes they *didn't* make. 🧵 9/11

It is fun. And interesting how Apple carefully crafts the Image Playground to impose guard rails: one person, no realistic photo style, portrait only. #AppleIntelligence #GenAI

A #flashback from the past. I was one of those #IBM ers on #Twitter back then. Though I must have missed the existence of #Bluesky 😆

How #IBM uses #socialmedia (internally): http://bit.ly/b3Ntp5, BTW - ditto at OpenLink Software since Y2K via #opl_ods :-) #linkeddata

The 90-9-1 principle. Surely I heard that more than 10 years ago. So I looked it up en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1%25_rule

Martin Holland@mho.social.heise.de.ap.brid.gy

On the #Vergecast @imdavidpierce said something like: On every #SocialNetwork 90% of the users read, 9% post a bit and 1% post almost everything. This does sound right, and for #Mastodon, #Threads and #Bluesky it would mean, that they don't need to be connected fully. 👇🏼

This feed’s Major Media Outlets Starter Pack is growing! I’m tracking every new reliable major-media outlet that joins Bluesky, with many more sure to come in the next few days. I hope you’ll stay tuned and pass this on to anyone else who still pays attention to major media (which I urge us to do).

Why now? I am genuinely curious about why this big X-odus did not happen already months ago or even last year. There was a clear trajectory of what was happening on the other side the whole time. So I wonder what kept people so long... Fomo? Duty? Hope? Comfort? Job or business?

We’ve put a lot of work into making Bluesky a healthier social network. This app is designed to give you a choice — in what you want to see, what you don’t want to see, and how you want to interact. Some tips on how to customize your experience:
