This is really bleak, but a good assessment of what we are up against.

1/ A full-scale Russian invasion of a NATO state is extremely unlikely while Russia remains fully committed to war against Ukraine. But full-scale invasion is not Putin's only option to conventionally escalate against a NATO state. Read the full scenario: isw.pub/NarvaScenari...

That great feeling when something you have been working on for weeks actually deploys and gets integrated into someone else’s work. It is fun helping with new businesses that are flying under the radar.

With LLMs writing code it really is 90% of the work in 10% of the time. Then 90% of the time spent on fixing poor specs to wrap up the last 10% of features :)

Bulgaria is a leading example in the EU of how increasing battery storage compounds the benefits of solar, and how quickly battery deployment can scale. In H1 2026, solar + batteries met nearly a quarter Bulgaria’s electricity demand in the evening 🔗 ember-energy.org/lat...

There are many things I like with my #Apple devices. But their web services are truly shitty. Why offer Apple account pages if they only produce ”Something went wrong”. @gruber.foo have you used them recently?

“There is no reason for any individual to have a computer in his home.” — Ken Olsen, founder & CEO, Digital Equipment Corporation, 1977. I beg to differ. Devices I use have (not cloud, or network stuff) : 22 CPUs with 119 documented core counts, 4 CPUs without core counts, and four GPU/DSP CPUs.

One of the nice things with letting LLMs do your coding is that you realise that your specification is shit earlier than you did before. So less time spent building the wrong thing.

An interesting and potentially horrifying use of social networks. Well worth reading.

I like doing video essays on a wide range of topics (i.e. not just traditional games or immersive stuff) but the challenge is finding an audience beyond my existing network. So, I was apprehensive posting my latest to r/geopolitics – its a serious subreddit – but it worked out!

Some really good insights in this. Worth the long format.

Excellent conversation with two excellent analysts. @vladvexler.bsky.social brings some excellent, rarely communicated in the West, insights into the psychology of Putin and illuminates how Russian history and societal developments affect its future. An excellent listen

John Mearsheimer has started a new YouTube channel, and he has gotten almost 80k subscribers in two days. It boggles the mind. Few people have been so consistently wrong about the war in Ukraine as Mearsheimer, and yet, people are still lining up to hear his takes.

ArcGIS Pro @ €3500/year. I now with QGIS (open source) and Claude @ € 240/year can replace 90%+ of what I would need ArcGIS for. And QGIS is on prem. if you want that from ESRI it is €6800/year. Traditional SaaS and product companies are in for some hurt.

The shared clipboard between two macOS machines is very practical when I cut and paste commands between the LLM machine and the one I need to run the command on.

11/12 But also the people that started what became Akvo Flow, Dru Borden, Christopher Fagiani, that was the foundation for some of this. Emeline Bereziat who guided it through to the end.

12/12 We can't mention everybody, but if you have worked with or for Akvo then this is for you too! Together we can build a better world society!

9/12 The story also highlights early country-level examples under this global agreement including Puntland (Somalia), Tanzania, Chad, and the Marshall Islands, where Akvo is helping modernize water/sanitation information systems on the ground.

10/12 A shoutout goes to the co-founders of Akvo: Jeroen van der Sommen, Peter van der Linde, Mark Nitzberg, Mark Charmer, Gabriel von Heijne.

7/12 billions of dollars of infrastructure investment go untracked or tracked in incompatible systems, and when programmes end, their data often disappears with them. To fix this, Akvo and UNICEF are focused on giving UNICEF a clearer real-time picture of its WASH programmes,

8/12 consolidating fragmented national systems into single trusted sources, building lasting data skills inside ministries and country offices, and ensuring collected data actually informs policy and investment decisions.

5/12 The deal lets UNICEF country offices engage Akvo directly, without lengthy procurement, backed by $550,000 already committed plus further demand-led funding.

6/12 The core problem the partnership addresses is that WASH decision-making is often hampered by fragmented monitoring systems, low data-quality confidence, and limited capacity to turn data into action —

3/12 Hundreds of people who have worked with Akvo since we started in 2007/2008, both externally and internally, have contributed to make this happen. You should all be proud!

4/12 The agreement is to strengthen national WASH (water, sanitation, hygiene) monitoring systems worldwide, building on a decade of partnership in West and Central Africa.

My favourite piece of kitchen equipment. 50 years old. Still works perfectly. Has a 3D printed prosthetic handle. Powers on like a champ.

macOS image capture app. Missed that it can connect to my scanner directly. Can ditch the atrocious HP application. (Yeah i know, I shouldn’t have paid for an HP device…)
