My brother in Christ the people you hate so much had medicine and hygiene when the “Western World” thought baths made you sick and that it was lucky to use bloody medical intstruments from the last guy you “practiced” on.
RFK: "There's five hundred million Arabs in the world. And yet they don't produce science. They don't win the Nobel Prize. They don't win the Fields Prize. They don't win the Wolf Prize. They don't produce literature."
Hey crew: is there a version of “He pulls a knife, you pull a gun, he sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue” I can use to explain to other attorneys my policy on handling prosecutors that *doesn’t* wind up with me getting a Talk?
Over 2,000 alumni from Vivek’s all-boys catholic high school in Cincinnati have signed and circulated a petition demanding that he pull the ad and issue a public apology for “ignoring the moral responsibilities” of his Jesuit education. I think he’s pretty cooked.
I’m big on mutual aid, but I’ll also note my local church has approximately never spent two hours of Food Bank Meeting time arguing about who’s secretly an FBI plant and I regrettably cannot say that for any leftist organization I have ever been a part of.
Like I think if we could just stop badjacketing people and looking for other people making us fail, we might be able to cure cancer but unfortunately it will never happen so we will never know.
This is an awful, but important read; because there are so fucking many men in their forties casually imploding other people’s lives - and a lot of women for whom dealing with the mess of fully untangling from them simply isn’t worth it.
To be clear, since the Apple News feed wasn’t, the “I” in question is not Rosael Torres-Davis but is very much a 45-year-old man apple.news/AH7cd2FHXR5C...
In more “things that used to be normal but aren’t now”, you used to be able to have someone come to your home if your cable and internet was fucked up - and that guy would know how to fix literally anything.
I have spent hours with Xfinity trying to unfuck my Internet to no avail.
marine corps boards crossing out their instructions "expel trans marines" and writing in "we keep this trans marine" is, frankly, a great example of what it means that a society is more than just its government
You or I pull any one of the many stunts AI has and we get thrown in a hole and denied computer access for years.
But a billion dollar business does it and it's "oopsie, my bad" without consequence.
Hey everyone - check your voter registration even if you’re sure you’re registered.
My middle child was somehow dropped from the rolls and we are having to re register them.
We found out because no ballot arrived - but if you don’t have vote by mail, could be a nasty day of surprise.
When it came out that the Nevada Republican David Flippo’s campaign had falsely claimed he received a Bronze Star with valor, there was just one problem, the Air Force veteran, wore a hat with V-shaped emblems for years. His new explanation? His grandkids added the Vs without him noticing.
Not a single word of this is hyperbolic in the slightest.
Buy your friends in cybersecurity the drink or chocolate of their choice right now. We are not doing well

70 percent of the internet was vulnerable yesterday to very bad security flaws inside a coding language. Turns out, *one volunteer* is mostly responsible for maintaining that code & helping push updates. Yesterday Ondřej Surý saved the internet. So I called him up www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...

Even if this were viable as a concept (that there's an afterlife; that it allows conversations with others; that enslavers are going the same place as you), who cares? Oh, are you mad at me, Ben Franklin? Tough shit.
The first genuinely honest ad for generative AI I've ever seen, from Microsoft / CoPilot
A mediocre white guy sees his non-white colleague getting praised for good work, he asks AI to *literally copy it*, and then he gets all the praise instead:

Wow — 🔥 Neil Bush: “I voted for @jamestalarico.bsky.social… Trump and those who have enabled him have done enormous damage to the Republican Party… Character matters more than party affiliation.”
I’ve received an alert from someone who lives deep in the heartland who says the gas stations are out of gas and stores are out of food.
Is anyone else noticing shortages in areas with a lot of preppers?
Trump announces "fraud whistleblower incentive program" -- "Americans will now be able to go to fraud dot gov and report cases of corruption and theft of taxpayer dollars in their communities ... if you turn somebody in and you find $1 billion, we're giving a commission of 1%. That's a lot of money"
I feel like some of this is generational as well:
The GenZ guys I see trying or doing polyamory are like “let’s schedule things, let’s have everyone meet, I’ll explore myself as well”
The GenX guys are midlife crisis age and it seems a cheat code only for them; if their wives do it they get mad.
I’m just pointing out, as a historical artifact, that farmers used to bring shotguns to such auctions to discourage people other than the owner from bidding.
Otherwise reasonable people say shit like that. Increasing “equity” is not a fucking benefit to me unless I want to put myself more in debt.
When house prices rise evenly, you don’t get a benefit from “equity” because you can’t just sell your house and buy another for cash.
beyond not understanding that you retain a benefit — growing equity — that justifies continued taxation, what is happening is that these people don’t understand that their mortgage payment included a property tax payment that went into escrow. that, and simple selfishness, is what’s happening here.
The reasonable position is to buy houses so you can die in them and your children can live in them without having to be indebted. If you plan to never sell a house, whether it’s 10 years from now or 100 years from now, it’s non beneficial how much it’s theoretically worth.
To argue that houses should flip more often, without assumption of mortgages, is just to be providing a fire hose of money to banks in interest.
If you really want house prices to lower, offer assumptions to all who are offered mortgages.
obviously many more important takeaways from the French approach to protest, but much respect to the absolute varsity level Whimsy of throwing a whole ass piano at the cops
The unspoken thing here is - the reason this is such a big issue is because we have sort of tacitly accepted as a society that it’s good, actually, that certain schools suck.
Magnet schools get your child out of having a shitty school - but so would improving the entire education system.
In brief - the Court granted cert on whether a school district can adopt a *facially neutral* policy (i.e., policy that does not explicitly take account of race/isn't a racial classification) that is designed to increase diversity.
I went to a well respected magnet school in NYC. The difference between it and my local high school was life changing *but* my local high school shouldn’t have had metal detectors in the first place. It should have been well funded enough for everyone to thrive.
I’ll also note that capitalism incentivizes such things, because there aren’t enough good jobs for everyone, so it encourages parents to shank each other so *their* kid can get ahead.
Judge Reyes is ordering Woodward to refile submission from last night with as many DOJ attys willing to sign it.

It is very funny to imagine that the DSA National Political Committee is sending out death threats to Congresspersons to warn of their impending plan for civil war, under their own letterhead and with the proper return address.
I want you all to know that this is not only enjoyable for observers but for participants. It is literally a joy to me to earnestly ask convert tradCaths about the preferential option for the poor.
I was pretty certain a judge would not have issued a warrant without heavy restrictions; good to see I was correct.
Also, “not allowing her to call her attorney for an hour” is insane.

I think it’s important for people to understand the only thing police were willing to do in this case was say “turn off your phone.” Police elsewhere provided protection for a man who was (wrongly) identified as one of the attackers, but none for the woman who needed it.
Police are not your friend.
I am not barred in PA, but on my read of the statute this doesn’t even begin to meet the elements and her clearly expressed intent makes it even worse for them.

Navy personnel turned him over.
Kids, don't enlist. I know money is very tight and you are worried. Go to your local church or temple first and ask for help there. Please. I worry about you. This isn't the military it was even 5 years ago.
This is beyond insane. Hegseth doesn’t understand the contributions of Latinos to the U.S. military, but I guarantee others at the Pentagon understand what a deadly mistake this is.
