Long before modern computers, Ada Lovelace foresaw a future where machines could compose music and create art. Born in London in 1815, she was the child of poet Lord Byron and Lady Anne Isabella Milbanke. Despite her father’s fame, her mother emphasized a rigorous education in mathematics. 🧵⬇️ (1/4)

So, will Trump be able to reverse this TikTok ban making him even more popular with young people? Masterful Democrat gamble as always

The self proclaimed bastion of freedom (which was already an imperialistic mess) turning into a regular old dictatorship in real time would be very funny if it wouldn't fuck the rest of us too

I've just never used LLMs nor felt the need to use LLMs, I keep doing what I was doing before the LLM bullshit and reaping the benefits

É sempre um bom sinal quando os principais vencedores do 25 de Novembro se recusam a participar nas comemorações enquanto os reacionários de direita tentam rescrever a história.

A theory of power: ChatGPT transfers the onus of figuring out what the hell you're attempting to express onto the person who has to deal with reading the output. The point isn't to make work easier, it's to produce an adversarial reallocation of responsibility. (That's why execs love it so much!!)

Another thing is I realised I'd rather make content in Portuguese rather than trying to pander to an international audience. Engaging with my actual culture and what I consume day-to-day (books, the news, etc.) means I have something that is more worthwhile to say and that'll resonate more...

So, now, I'm still irrelevant, but more unique, I think. I've also become able to share what I do with those immediately around me and get some sort of response, and that's much nicer than trying to engage with an abstract international scene that I'm not really a part of.

The flip side of this is that I'm basically online-unmarketable. I don't really care – internet points are nice, but I've never really been very good at doing the content dance, especially because doing so has never been my primary occupation (and I don't think I want it to be)

... with others in similar conditions, even if it means there's an overall smaller audience. I also realised how important a physical scene and offline connections are, regardless of online popularity. (And, more than that, how online popularity tends to be a function of these things!)

I live in a country that was fascist until not that long ago, by European standards: we broke from our 20th century dictatorship relatively late. This is to say— and I know this is not what you want to hear —that these people will *never* wake up to the fact that their misery is their own doing.

They are fanatics, and, as they already do, they live in a world of fantasy immune to the reality around them. Even when one day others sacrifice themselves to do away from this hell (hoping that we get there, and it doesn't all just go to shit in the meantime), they will still reminisce these days.

You are up to date.
