agreed! (she was in THE CHRISTMAS PRINCE as the kindly grandmother and the vibe was WEIRD)
but i also like when the Borg Queen is a different actress and is like "hello it's me, definitely the same lady as before" and then it's alice krige again like "hello"
like it's a doctor who regen situation
yeah it's probably a Galactus situation - "oh hang on what is THIS planet scared of but kind of turned on by?"
reminds me ACTUALLY of the tv show PLURIBUS where the collective is like "okay here's this lesbian we need to talk to's deal - give her Perfect Type a makeover and put her on a plane"
the fact is this is also why after that first Borg episode we immediately need to make Picard into Locutus the next time we see them. Ditto needing Hugh and Seven of Nine.
STAR TREK lives or dies on taking great actors and gluing shit to their faces so they can snarl at each other
Because while it's super cool to have an enemy whose thing is they don't have an identity, it's also kind of hard to tell stories about an enemy without an identity who just sort of wants the same thing over and over and over again.
man we used to make proper movies.
it's like when you find out they got David Bowie to go upside-down on those Escher steps in LABYRINTH by making a crazy crane swing behind his one leg
was talking to a drag queen the other day abt how i want to do the Borg Queen w an outfit reveal where they rip off my bodysuit to reveal a green-screen suit with white tennis balls underneath as my muscle-hunk drone dancers "float" my disembodied head and my cybernetic spine wriggles at the crowd
"hello I am the Borg. i am at once the collective itself and also its sovereign and also its most horrible slave because i am denied the unity they all enjoy because of me. this is a horny and goth deal" that rules in fact.
she is my favourite weirdo cenobite
the Borg are a collective but they still have specialized functions as units and i think it makes sense to have one whose job is to be as Wet, Mean, and Cunty as possible
used to be able to google a line i sort of half-remembered and get the quote but now it just takes the thing I half-remembered unaltered and hallucinates a play & character to attribute it to (or just another author and century entirely!)
the line i wanted (w HIS affections and TEND) is from hamlet
so instead I waste a huge amount of time going "wait really? did he use it twice? did Austen borrow the line?" and waste time chasing complete phantoms
worse still is when someone ELSE has clearly done this but not followed the trail and just reports it as though it were fact, creating a doubly misleading paper trail
