The first independent review of Mythos cyber capabilities I've seen. The UK's AI Security Institute - an independent government body - appears to have got their hands on Mythos and published their findings. 1/7 🧵

100% this. Even as a man, I find the prevailing competi-bro mentality of many male tech groups to be deeply unpleasant and it’s all so “smarter than thou” as well. Toxic.

At a women in STEM event today, someone bemoaned the lack of women doing computer science. At tea, a young women who had left the AI/tech world told me this: “it’s just full of men lying about how good they are & constantly competing”. Just maybe the problem is with tech culture & not the women… 🤔

People talk about this stuff in terms of how much it'll suck for gaming and I hate to inform you how many MRI machines, X-Rays, all sorts of other vital machinery are just a Windows IoT Edition PC in a beige plastic box with a big magnet/accelerator/whatever attached.

I'm pretty sure I know. They aren't. We're not going to really be able to make a lot of progress in dealing with the implications of this tech unless and until we get rid of all this "woo-woo" talk about LLMs. Anthropic pushing this line is PR, unserious.

The thing that gets me about the “vibe coding is now so good” crowd is that you cannot possibly know how good new code is right away. It’s 6, 18, 24 months down the line you’re gonna find out, after several changes, service merges / splits, pivots etc. THEN we find out. Not now just cos “it works”

And the last thing is that the fact that some coders wrote something that is good at writing code is sort of the least surprising part of this. They should be good at that stuff. The weird bit is when they make things that also try to be friends and therapists and lovers and artists.

Of VC-backed products, 78% fail: 42% fail because nobody wants them. 17% because they don't really solve the problem they claim to solve. 19% because they were no different from competing products or couldn't evolve with the market. And that's just VC-backed companies. 1/2

Remember all those years nobody danced to the Macarena because they couldn’t understand the lyrics?

Free idea: somebody should make a periodic publication that reports on current events without bias or influence. A newspaper, if you will.

Anything that inconveniences a right wing populist is censorship, part 1000. This depraved prick uses that term bc it puts his enemies on the defensive. They cower. Fact-checking is censorship. Labeling is censorship. TRANSPARENCY is censorship. Now, “no nonconsensual nudes” is censorship.

Preventing the sharing of sexualised images of children is “censorship” according to Elon Musk. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Much of the dysfunction you find in organizations, and most of the problems you find in software development, come from the fact that people—engineers in particular—believe that complex systems (in the Cynefin sense) can be understood and controlled. They can not. 1/7

Something that hasn't been made clear: Firefox will have an option to completely disable all AI features. We've been calling it the AI kill switch internally. I'm sure it'll ship with a less murderous name, but that's how seriously and absolutely we're taking this. …
