Experimenting a bit with HLS video. I was reminded just how magical ffmpeg is. It was very easy to split the big video into the segments and create the playlist I took longer trying to see how to create a folder in Cloudflare R2

So from what I understand, the tea app leak was because of insecure firebase rules. Tough for the devs. This is a reminder if you're using firebase, spend time on the security rules. And no, request.auth != null is not enough

How do folks handle syncing a detail page to a list page? An example is with Bluesky here. If while on a post detail page I add a comment, the comment count will be correctly incremented, but going back to my feed I get the old comment count. Is the cleanest solution refetching the entire feed?

Just upgraded to 3.32.0 from 3.24.5 and finding the textDecoration behaviour has changed. The underline colour is not the same as the text colour passed. Has anyone else faced this? The fix is also passing a decorationColor. I'd think that they should be the same by default

Performance optimisation is very counterintuitive. That's why you need to measure first. One data structure may be faster than another in theory, but due to CPU cache, slower in practice The compiler will also do a lot of work to help your code be faster. Don't go with intuition. Measure.

Performance optimisation is such an interesting topic - Everyone wants to write performant apps. Not many know how. So many end up following general steps that may not be as helpful for them. Generic advice may not work for one's particular app, or worse have a negative effect on performance

There was a post for comparing language performance. You could tell those who are really good at language performance dive in to assembly to see what's actually happening. Without that understanding, the comparison wasn't helpful

To improve performance, you also need to measure. Otherwise you're going blind. Bottlenecks aren't always intuitive. Measuring helps us know where to work on. We also learn where we don't have an issue. Let Dev tools be your friend. Understanding is also invaluable.

Macro optimisations would yield a lot more dividends than micro-optimisations. Macro optimisations are more architectural. Adding a cache, for example, can have a very noticeable effect in user experience. Reducing the number of builds might not be noticed at all

The fastest code is code that does not do anything. A lot of waste is done when we make the CPU do work that's not needed. It sounds crazy when said out loud, but it's quite common to calculate things that aren't needed. Or load things that have already been loaded. Only doing what is needed

The golden rule is premature optimisation is the root of all evil. The order of things should be 1. Make it work. 2. Make it right. 3. Make it fast. As one gains more experience, the generally fast approach would be the first approach they go for (i.e. meets all 3 criteria)

Started experimenting with spring-simulation based Hero transitions in #FlutterDev today. It looks very promising, but there are a lot of issues to iron out still 🙈
