“People sometimes tell me that they prefer barbarism to civilisation. I doubt if they have given it a long enough trial…they are bored by civilisation; but all the evidence suggests that the boredom of barbarism is infinitely greater.” Kenneth Clark, ‘Civilisation’.

During my coffee break, I saw the This Morning hosts and guests (I recognised Gyles B and Demot O) discussing nepotism, and explaining how, actually, it's not a bad thing because it's natural. Parents help their kids. Er...yes...but open and fair competition would be rather nice too.

Don't get the resistance to stocking up advice. Those in rural and semi rural areas experience regular power cuts. It's a regular occurrence. It makes sense to be prepared. In our experience, losing electricity is child's play compared to being without water.

I am once again asking for anybody to please tell me that the book on how Russia has achieved regime change in the United States is wrong.

I'm reading a book just come to print by Keir Giles - "American Overthrow". What I've read so far aids understanding of these moments. The question is no longer WTF or HTH but how does this eventually play out. Worth a read.

I know this kind of stuff isn’t impeachable, but it should be. The Republican Party should hang its collective head in shame for enabling this.

Ruth Deyermond@ruthdeyermond.bsky.social

The main problem with the bill, though, is that it allows Trump to waive any sanctions against any entity covered by the act if he says it's in the national interest to do so.
