I like owning my little store and meeting people who walk into it every day and looking into their eyes and having a conversation and understanding other people are inherently good and you should treat them as such, until they give you other reason. So yeah

last june Variety posted this story, which i saw in book news: ‘Heated Rivalry’ Success Sparks New Publishing House From Gay Adult Entertainment Giant Falcon | NakedSword basically, a gay pornography company was gonna try to get straight ladies to buy books based on gay porn IP. sure, why not

the point is that no one in book/entertainment press actually does any reporting or investigating for the most part, they just reprint press releases. how else did variety fall for this? the authors of these books had sold <100 books total, ever. somehow this is a news story for variety, tho?

also while i was lookin stuff up i checked in on the olivia nuzzi book, which has sold 2836 copies since it was released in dec 2025 to a major media campaign. it has a total of 5 ebook sales. woof

we sell a lot of gay hockey books, like everyone else does. everyone on board the bandwagon, sure! but it turns out the gay pornographer's books are not selling. as of today, both books have sold less that 100 copies nationwide since their launch in july. seems like a bust. haha get it. sorry

Pretty cool that all the bookstores but ours are still on Instagram Keep doing panels on the importance of social media tho @americanbookseller.bsky.social

Unlike Christine Maggiore and her poor child, rock will never die

Contributor Christina Smart was in the audience Monday night as the Foo Fighters played 30 years of hits at their sold-out set at Nats Park. “While some might lament the current state of rock, or even say that the format is dead, as long as the Foo Fighters are around that will never be the case."

It's kind of interesting how we have different experiences, lives, and philosophies, and yet there's one thing we can all agree on: Prisons should number in the tens of thousands, be owned by private citizens with no oversight and explicit permission and encouragement to brutalize people for profit.

It's a real thrill and an honor to have my work and words included, alongside some great peers and fellow travelers, in this excellent article. Thanks to Shira Friedman-Parks for writing it and the Chicago Reader for publishing it!

The world is on fire and this corny bloodstained stooge has dropped his latest focus-grouped summer playlist. Thank you sir. I will listen to "Charlie Brown" by Coldplay.

Here are some of the songs I've been listening to this summer. It starts with a song Michelle and I love by Glen Hansard, a great musician who passed tragically this week. Our hearts go out to his family.
