Severe weather is bad, but I do perversely love that in light of storms we all have to cancel plans and stay inside. It's a reminder that we're subsumed by our environment and not the other way around.

simple question worth asking: why would the Dallas Cowboys, of all teams, voluntarily recognize a worker union, and to what extent will an independent union be able to bargain against one of the wealthiest sports franchises in the world? seems worth digging into that one.

Happening today, in just a couple hours! If you've got a slow Friday afternoon what do you have to lose by spending a little bit of it with me and some nice nuns, priests, and laypeople committed to ecological justice?

The energy wealth fund bit of the jackdaw news is driving me bonkers. Fossil fuels cannot fund a just transition! Especially, the money is coming from tax revenue of a declining basin.

Not to mention that fossil fuel companies notoriously find ways to skip out on taxes! Shell, the partial owner of Adura, who owns jackdaw paid a net zero taxes in 2025! You can't tax £0.

Great, wealth creators...you mean the working class? Ah, no.

Chancellor to pitch budget at wealth creators – UK politics live

theguardian.comChancellor to pitch budget at wealth creators – UK politics liveJohn Healey is expected to cut red tape requirements, particularly for smaller businesses Good morning. A week today John Healey, the chancellor, will be doing a media round defending the budget he is presenting on Wednesday next week. Ahead of that, he has given an interview to Patrick Maguire from the Times. As you would expect, there is no real detail in it about the measures he will be presenting to MPs. But the big picture message is very clear – and quite surprising, coming from a chancellor serving a PM who in some respects is steering left compared to his predecessor. Healey says that he wants to be on the side of bloody-minded entrepreneurs who make a profit, he acknowledges that government has made their life harder over the past two years, and he suggests that cutting the ‘cost of living’ for business is just as important as cutting the real cost of living for families. In the quote that gives the Times its splash headline, Healey says: I want to be a chancellor who backs business in Britain making a profit, and those entrepreneurs who, in the end, are the ones who challenge the status quo, come up with innovative ideas and are trying, some of them through sheer bloody-mindedness, to keep going through these sorts of pressures … If you’re not making a profit, you’ve got nothing to put back into the business. And for the people who start up these businesses, the ones who really thrive and grow, they have to make a profit — and they will be much more inclined to put it back into their own business. But we want it to grow here and stay here. If you talk to any of the businesses that have come in and have either had one-to-ones or round tables with me, I have recognised that in recent times there’s been a lot of pressure: employment law, regulation, tax, input costs, supply chains. And so when I talk about the cost of business, and recognising that in the same way as we’re recognising the cost of living pressures, I’m conscious of that as I go into the budget for both businesses and households. [Healey] is expected to use the budget to make significant cuts to regulation on businesses that one senior Treasury source described as “the sludge choking firms”. Reporting requirements are likely to be abolished for many smaller enterprises, The Times understands. Continue reading...

Approving the Jackdaw gas field solves none of our problems, while contributing to the existential crisis of climate breakdown. The government has privileged special interests above the general interest. It's a shameful, cowardly decision.

At the very least, creating a fund to reinvest oil money in renewables is alright. A clear signal that renewables are the direction of travel. Publicly owned renewables would be even more sensible...since you know....it creates electricity from the air and sun. www.reuters.com/business/ene...

Jackdaw can only provide about 2% of our gas requirements and will not bring down our bills which are set to the most expensive thing. We need to focus on investment AWAY from fossil fuels for a more sustainable, more affordable, greener future.

🚨 BREAKING: The UK Labour Government have approved the Jackdaw gas field. This a devastating betrayal of future generations. Jackdaw will make the UK even more dependent on the global gas market. This will do nothing to lower household energy bills and it is dishonest to pretend that it will.

It's kind of wild journalists and media companies are going to spend the rest of the day telling you that more oil and gas extraction is good and sensible.

Hey, if you're still extracting fossil fuels after climate projections are putting us at +1.8 C that's climate denial. There's nothing pragmatic or common sense about this!

Recently, KFC/Taco Bell workers organized a strike in California due to extreme heat. In the 9 years we’ve been working at this store, the AC has never worked or never been turned on, and the thermostat on the wall always reads 84 degrees no matter what the temperature feels like! Enough is enough!

Stuff like this drives me up the wall because we all look around our communities and can recognise that there is so much work that needs to be done. But instead of governments investing in work needed for our wellbeing, we get more militarism.

Matt B@mattbernico.bsky.social

Listen, workers need jobs. But, more jobs making and storing weapons is not a part of the "just transition" it's just more militarism. www.thenational.scot/news/2663024...

I'm absolutely psyched out of my gourd to go to the Community Energy Scotland conference tomorrow. Community energy is some of the coolest stuff out there. People are doing solar punk for real. ⚡️

I love when people are like "we've got to challenge the root cause of poverty and climate change" and they mean fiddling around the edges of government policy instead of the abolition of capitalism.

When I was 20 I was posting a lot about philosophy. Now that I'm an adult, I've put away such childish things and just post pictures of the soup I ate for lunch.

The extra hot Canadian summers and wildfire smoke have cooked this guy's brain.

Here’s him touting the carbon capture project as sustainable — despite the vast majority of captured carbon (73%) being used to extract more oil from otherwise depleted wells. Carney’s government offers a tax incentive even when this is how captured carbon is used.
