JUST POSTED: A Russian energy giant has secretly moved to acquire a position in a massive Alaska gas project. Its part of talks between Witkoff/Kushner & Putin. But CEO of US company resigns after learning of Russian money in the project. A wowzer of a story.

I met Jim Barker almost 40 yrs ago at a dance festival in St. Mary's. I'll never forget watching him at work with his camera. His ability to capture the heart & soul of another culture inspired my own work. With help from KYUK's Evan Erickson, here's our tribute to Jim. www.knba.org/news/2026-10...

“More important, these Democrats should come to terms with the reality that sometimes, when you work for a busy, prominent person in a high-stress environment, your job really is to feed the lizard.”

ME: So I can't put anything else on the scale?
ANUBIS: No. Just your heart
ME: No money, no good deeds?
ANUBIS: No
ME: What about steam points? I've got a ton of steam points
ANUBIS: The point is to be lighter than the feather
ME: I was just hoping to finally do something with the steam points
Digging through the comments on social media this morning, I'm struggling to find anyone who sees the NYT story on Peltola as particularly a big deal.
After all, she was elected to the office of a guy who once held a knife to Boehner's throat.
One commenter from Alaska Story: "Wait. Now we as Republicans are going to feign that we care about this kind of behavior? This is just locker room talk."
Most of the outrage is, frankly, feigned or comes from camps already opposed to Peltola.
One said they wouldn't vote for Peltola even if she were a Republican, which is kinda telling.
To a lot of Republicans, just being a Democrat is vulgar.
Oh look! Trumpism is thisclose to going down in flames!
NYT: "HOLD UP! Let's do a petty hit piece on a historic race just to make EXTRA SURE we preserve the status quo of the unmitigated hellscape we've been trapped in for over a decade."
Oh, and it’s a former staffer who took that position:
“Mr. Fick said there were times when Ms. Peltola “raised her voice” at her staff. He suggested … that people not used to working in blue-collar environments like a commercial fishing boat might be overstating the incidents.”
Frankly kinda wild to hear Treg Taylor, who got on the ballot despite knowingly violating Alaska financial disclosure laws, complaining that no one trusts Alaska’s elections system because of “all the games being played.”
Like, cmon.

The University of Alaska Anchorage still has no booking from President Trump, a university official said today. Trump said last week that he would come to Alaska and campaign for Sen. Dan Sullivan before the general election. Trump used UAA for a 2022 campaign rally. #akleg
man, credit to the the alaska landmine when it's due
they have cameras everywhere
even got my live reaction to the Division of Elections' latest claims that they definitely aren't doing everything in their power to boost friendly Republicans
My #akleg group chat is getting an earful from me this morning.
"Why THE FUCK was Dunleavy at the presser?"
"What was a disgraced AG doing there?
"A misplaced COMMA?"
Perhaps an all-time Friday news dump:
GOP former Attorney General Treg "I Don't Have to Fill Out My Financial Disclosures" Taylor is BACK IN THE RACE for governor!
At 10:15, Lt. Gov. Dahlstrom (R) says the Department of Law's "independent" review says she has to let Treg off the hook.

The argument seems to be that the Department of Law — which Treg led until last year — found a few other financial disclosures from candidates that MAY not be accurate.
So they've decided, therefore, that you can't enforce the rules on Treg, who DEFINITELY is ignoring the law.

The withdrawal deadline has passed — as marked by JBER playing the Star-Spangled Banner — and now we're just waiting on official word on whether Jodi Taylor has successfully stepped in for Treg Taylor.
Otherwise, it looks like Crum's in the gov race.
Bishop has dropped out.

Important to point out Jodi Taylor’s financial disclosures have the exact same problem that got Treg DQ’d.
No last names who’s renting at their 234-unit apartment building.
Last year, they asked for special treatment, were denied and did it any way.
Also, there just so happens to be some very recent legal precedent that actually it’s cool and fine to leave the public in the dark. alaskabeacon.com/2026/08/07/a...
Also, looks like Bill Hill will still have a crowded race against US Rep. Nick Begich.
Ahead of the deadline, Democrat John B Williams has dropped out.
That leaves Democrat and currently imprisoned felon Eric Hafner in the race, elevating Democrat Yaquelin Reynoso to the general.

Also worth noting, amid all the action with Taylor getting disqualified, Republican candidate for House District 22 (East Anchorage) Jose Tagle has been disqualified.
Tagle similarly refused to properly file his financial disclosure.
That'll leave Democratic Rep. Ted Eischeid unopposed.

Mary Peltola will be the only Democrat in Alaska's race for the U.S. Senate after progressive Democrat David Leslie dropped out, clearing the way for Republican candidate Gerald Heikes to finish out the general election ballot.
It'll be:
Peltola
Sullivan

Heikes

Alaska's gov race updates:
Begich's out, backing JKT
Treg Taylor's out because the rules DO apply to him (but maybe his LT is still in the race?)
Republicans are still holding out hope for a GOP consolidation

This reminds me that I'm not remotely prepared for the non-gamer "public discourse" around GTA6. I feel like Clemenza preparing for the mob war. A whole new generation of bad takes.
"These things have to happen every 5 year, 10 years. It's been 13 years since the last one."
Alaska's certified elections results have been posted, and we're now waiting on 5 p.m., the deadline for candidates in the top-four primary to stay in or withdraw: www.documentcloud.org/documents/28...#akleg#akelect
Democrat Tom Begich has suspended his campaign and endorsed fellow Democrat Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins, clearing the way for him to face 3 Republicans.
He says it doesn’t make sense for them to fight over the same votes and the same resources when they have such similar visions.

I've heard just about every combo of potential outcomes in what the race for governor will actually look like, and that was all before it turned out Taylor may be an illegal (candidate).
Frankly, it all feels a little like 5D chess with a non-zero chance that we somehow end up with Palin as gov.
So, as Alaska's governor's race stands:
- JKT and Begich may/will consolidate
- Wilson: Staying in
- Bronson: Staying in
- Taylor WOULD move up if the Dems consolidate, but isn't actually a legitimate candidate
- Bishop WOULD move up if Dems consolidate, Taylor legally blocked
- Crum: Hanging out
I've really tried to take a "let's just see what happens and not get wrapped up in every twist and turn" over the whole governor's race consolidation rumors, but, man, it sure is getting twisty.

Months after Republican Gov. Mike Dunleavy vetoed campaign finance limits, Alaskans got the final word.
Ballot Measure 1, putting a $2,000 cap on contributions, is passing with more than 70% of the vote from Tuesday's primary, carrying all but one of the 40 House districts.
