Displaced Devonian in Yorkshire, ageing goth who yawns a lot (2 sleep disorders and chronic fatigue). Never been a "real man" so a little bit NB, here for the SF, history, science and friends
Icon from Doomtown, best card game ever made
That's what it is!
It's been bugging me how they don't even see how shit it looks and that explains some of it, it's films for people that don't like film
"AI filmmaking" always looks trash not just because of technical reasons. But because it's always done by people who think "filmmaking" is a Call of Duty cut scene extended to 90mins.
It's why everyone is always beardy with accents. It's all just Call of Duty cosplay.
Omg no, he was so young. Damn. He was such a talented voice actor. It’s on the mind because I literally just watched it yesterday, but he got asked to do the taken monologue as porky pig and its a masterpiece
OK, I finally relented and properly watched The Force Awakens given I'm enjoying all the TV shows quite a lot
I don't know which is worse, the continuity errors in every scene or the huge gaping plotholes
Fun tho; the cast is great, it's just bollocks, isn't it?
Apparently it's The Good One next
Well, that was, without doubt, a film that I have watched
There were some excellent performances by some astounding actors, including several attempts to make really shitty dialogue and plot make sense
I'd like to see several of the characters again, but please a writer/director that isn't a hack?

OK, film two was fine, no glaringly stupid plotholes, way way fewer continuity fuckups and overall it was fun
Now, well, I've started the third one. They're packing to leave on the search for Exegol and it's just, no, what message FFS?
Question: outside earlier, several houses had stacks of pumpkins outside
Not carved—different sizes, shapes, varieties, piled up
Is this some new trend that makes no sense?
Pumpkins are easier to carve a Jack O'Lantern into than a fucking mangle wurzel, it's the lantern that's significant FFS
The border geek in me loves when Jonn does this stuff but this particular one I knew already :-D
What was fascinating to the linguistics geek in me was the British to American translation at the bottom: we learn the actual objects, pavement/sidewalk, jam/jelly but colloquiallisms can be weird
When I was a high school student, I had to be judicious about reading mass market paperbacks in class but today I could fit whole libraries onto my phone and a phone must be easy to read in class.
Jennie is in That London again, so it's daily trips to the train station time
Wait until a train arrives, she's not on it, we can leave then
Um, I ain't waiting that long in this cold silly beast, I know she's not on it
So, Jennie is away at a conference
When she comes back Ridley meets her at the station, he's convinced that if he goes to the station she will appear
Smart enough to know what platform to wait on, not smart enough to understand she's in Brighton till Wednesday
One of the things that worries me is the misapprehension that academia is the collection of facts.
That learning science is learning names of things.
That learning history is laerning what happened on what date.
It's all far richer than that.
Solar farms in the Gobi are cutting dust storms. A study of 17 farms found the panels slow surface winds by more than 9% and make soil up to 17% less erodible, reducing springtime dust by about 352,000 tonnes a month. RenewEconomy buff.ly/bambHT8#ShareGoodNewsToo
This is genuinely embarrassing for the BBC and for anyone with "cyber correspondent" as a job title. Everyone involved with this should be cringing inside out.
when Baldur's Gate one launched, it was "AD&D", almost a laughing stock stuck with first generation RPG rules
Gate, 3rd edition/D20 system and the Open Games Licence turned it around, but Gate opened it up to a different demographic in time for Ryan Dancey's rescue to turn it around
And as an aside - you should not doubt how fucking uncool D&D was in 1998 as a game, and how poisoned that particular well had been for a while. Baldur's Gate turned that around, and if you do want a road from D&D then to D&D now, it does strike me that Bioware's needs more credit than they get.
We come back to the idea of Execs who really don't understand art or why people make art, in any way, finding ways to absolutely annihilate those that do, in a death of a thousand cuts and then one big 400-person cut.
It's heartbreaking. The western games industry kills a NIntendo every year.
This is fascinating, always thought the fast expansion from almost nothing was a bit much and very unusual
Turns out it started way earlier, I'm loving the way science can now answer stuff we thought unknowable
Archaeologists thought they understood Inca history and chronology based on historical documents. It turns out a 16th century Spanish priest just...made up those dates. So scientists are starting again, this time with radiocarbon

Ooh says I, those seats look just like...
Oh, they are those seats
The closure of Paignton cinema was a ridiculous travesty and it's been neglected deliberately for far too long
Used to claim being one of the oldest still going, 25 years shut kills that, but thank fuck someone's rescuing it
Help shape the next chapter of one of the UK’s oldest surviving purpose-built cinemas. After more than 25 years, Paignton Picturehouse is preparing to reopen in 2027 as a restored independent cinema & cultural hub & is looking for new trustees. More details here: tinyurl.com/5ynnxk2x#cinemasky
A shadow of a wooden #tool is all what's left - but its and the other traces uncovered at #AbricRomani in #Spain give some spectacular insight into #Neanderthal handicraft and everyday life.

Scrolling down, see something that looks familiar, do a bit of digging and yes, it's her!
Trish, formerly of Citadel/Marauder/ForgeWorld is sculpting her own stuff and some of it is so so good
Always did love her treemen, even got a halfling Blood Bowl team just to justify owning another one :-D
I’ve got my latest Treeman sculpts painted up now, using a lot of speedpaints and contrast paints. Branchbane and Tangleroot will join their buddies in the forests of HarrowHyrst…loving populating my own world! footsoreminiatures.co.uk/collections/...

Stands a gigantic Leg, which far off throws
The only shadow that the Desert knows:—

Go to your camera roll and search "boat" and then post a picture of a boat you like.
Look, when I mention "my favourite beach" it's this one, used to go swim in when I finished my paper round

Homesick just a little bit now
Always love looking at a road/hedgerow that could be anything between a couple hundred and a couple thousand years old but no one's quite sure
