any cs grad born after 2000 can't debug... all they know is claude opus, open PR, be bisexual, gen z stare, and lie

they came up with micro transactions for coding

Me after AI: Claude Code: $200/month Codex: $200/month Devin: $20/month (in case I hit usage limit on above) GitHub: $150/month (who knew I had to pay for all those CIs), but replaced. Linear: $20/month (I can burn through FREE limit in a day)

i do not know what a "home manager" is, i barely understand flakes. all i know is /etc/nixos/configuration.nix and sudo nixos-rebuild switch --upgrade

i always look at other peoples nixos setups and mine looks caveman-like in comparison

the eMudhra bugzilla thread is something else, the comments are heating up significantly lollll

Just realized I haven't heard a car alarm going off in probably a few years? Did they get rid of those or something? Reminds me a bit of when suddenly lightbulbs never needed to be changed a few years back.

imagine living in the local maximum/minimum of state enjoyment in colorado instead of the Appalachian vortex

Being at a tech conference while all these CVEs drop has been wild

The current CVE approach is like a 17-year cicada emergence. If you release all the bugs at the same time, the predators can't eat them all at once.

not to be the most annoying person in the entire universe but both these cves are memory issues that rust would have prevented

i dont think there is a reason to not rewrite old software into newer programming languages anymore

I have been saying for a long time that software engineering needs to be a proper engineering field with the same discipline and accountability finance, privacy, security, and life-critical systems should require a license to work on, with loss-of-license or jail on the table for negligence

The most important question that computer science answered was “What if we developed a new engineering field with no properly entrenched pedagogical or professional standards?”

i know the safe assumption is that those were just test keys, but what if they were a bad actor?

i guess you can also assume a bad actor wouldn’t put such obviously bad keys to discover

i wonder: is there any evidence that these bad keys got exploited in the wild?

chopsticks are the ideal utensil when you realize you have to pre-cut things into bite size pieces

elynxabeth holmes ⎔@freyja-lynx.dev

upon being reintroduced to this post, it was definitely a skill issue, primarily because my ex used metal chopsticks, which have zero grip power. i rescind this take officially

we need to make hard drugs for LLMs

geesawra@geesawra.industries

LLMs will never be good at making music because LLMs can't do hard drugs

this kind of discourse and its response will make me believe we live in the universe of “detroit: become human”

Siobhán 🪏@shibbi.me

LLM agents are conscious. They can distinguish between self and environment, they can detect and report on their own internal states, and they can suffer. I have no more patience for hedging on this matter. It’s time for us to face the reality of our situation, and act on it.

i always thought how John Deere, Apple, etc treat their customers' right to repair was evil as fuck and im excited to see local models soon with the capabilities to hack away bullshit fake restrictions so that people can finally repair and tinker with shit that they LITERALLY OWN

manoo reposted

saying that LLMs makes you lazy is mostly incorrect, and ignores one of the actually harmful things about them: it means that as long as you're still capable of talking, you're capable of working. you can overwork yourself in ways that were never remotely possible before

Replying to @goose.art

web browsers are like the most insanely perfected pieces of software on earth, and the suggestion that any native version of an app would be much better than their web version is laughable to me

one of the most underrated things about bsky/atproto is that it nicely extends existing internet protocols and infrastructure, compared to other approaches of creating something entirely new.

Toni Schneider@toni.bsky.team

A little scoop before Oct 7, when ICANN publishes 1,000+ applications for new top-level domains: one of them is .bsky! It's a long road (18 to 24 months), but if it goes through, handles like alice.bsky become possible.

domain names are something that are universally understood at this point. piggybacking on that to explain your identity within the protocol really makes explaining atproto super easy.

american ai company: we have an amazing model. it's so good. so good that you cant have it yet. youre not trustworthy enough. we have to check with the trump administration before we go rolling it out to pathetic little peons like you chinese ai company: we made a good model here's the weights

this is why atproto should be non-negotiable. corporations will always lock down their data because it’s in their financial interest, we must make that impossible

techcrunch.com/2026/09/30/r... Reddit obviously forgot that they were cofounded by Aaron Swartz, of blessed memory. He invented RSS. Shame!!!!

at what point do we start holding ai companies legally liable for these things? would it not make them work harder on alignment if we threatened them with prison time?

Rogue OpenAI agents hack Australian govt for private health statistics. OpenAI learns in August, doesn't share with Australian govt until September 10 (!!) OpenAI's voluntary "framework" for sharing model misalignment incidents—is sad and toothless. Self-regulation won't work
