Everybody loves to clown on Star Wars for “somehow, Palpatine came back”; No one wants to talk about how the beginning of Fellowship of the Ring is basically, “Somehow, Sauron came back”

This bowling ball does not seem to be in great shape; seems like they could have at least given him a new one.

Pope Leo XIV has been gifted a massive green orb and honestly not now massive green orb

For all of its faults, one magical thing about the broadcast era was stumbling onto a show in the middle of its run, picking up odd reruns in syndication, and never being sure you’d seen it all: the rest of the show was constantly a hazy, unknown territory, often making it seem bigger than it was.

This is basically the dialog from the base star Cylons in the Battlestar Galactica reboot. All it needs is, “End of Line”

Fable-isms are getting out of hand

It’s about this thing, not that other, totally unrelated thing that no one was talking about and that no reasonable person would have considered in this context.

*cocks shotgun* “LLM’s haunted”

“Never talk about goblins, gremlins, raccoons, trolls, ogres, pigeons, or other animals or creatures unless it is absolutely and unambiguously relevant,” reads OpenAI's coding agent instructions. www.wired.com/story/openai...

Remember that time when Microsoft introduced the first Surface tablet and spent like five minutes of their intro event bragging about how they’d engineered the clicky sound of the kickstand?

Fine. I’ll do the age verification meme. I manually reconfigured dip switches to fix IRQ conflicts between the add-on cards in my Gateway 2000 PC in order to resolve freezes in my video games.

Had a dream that they added a “grudge” badge as an alternative to “follows you” on profile pages, and I crushed to discover folks I’d never interacted with holding grudges against me. 😭

Same, tbh

This is Kevin. He's a reactive dog getting some training to be more comfortable. His trainer brought him to a pet store for some socialization where they learned he is no longer reactive when given a giant stuffed dinosaur. 14/10 (TT: katieandtatesfostermates)

Do you ever spend a couple of weeks trying to figure out how to run a formally specified system in your head, only to realize that nothing short of a general purpose computer can run it?

This is hopefully as close to being *literally* nerd sniped as I’ll ever get. Obviously, there was no big truck in my case, but I’ve been so deeply lost in thought that I might not have noticed one until it was too late. 😂

I may have made a terrible mistake: I got so absorbed/obsessed by what I was doing that I neglected to eat until two hours past my normal lunch. I am now heating up food, and it is an agonizing wait now that I am aware of my body again.

This morning, I saw a bag of marshmallows labeled “jet puffed”, and I started reflecting on how many marshmallow brands feel the need to comment on puffiness (even fictional brands, like Stay Puffed in Ghostbusters) 1/

And now I find myself wondering: was there ever a time when the puffiness of marshmallows was ever in doubt? Can you *have* an un-puffy marshmallow? And this leads me to wonder: what to vendors have to *hide* that they feel so compelled to loudly advertise one of the most obvious product traits?

“Ping pong of clarity” may become one of my new favorite phrases

dan@danabra.mov

hop on a call is something you earn by showing good ack. the op was very specific about problems but the reply is incredibly vague and doesn’t directly refer to any of them. vague reply to specific concerns doesn’t respect the ping pong of clarity
