new type of annoying pattern is people filing nonsensical AI-generated issues and other people sending nonsensical PRs trying to fix those issues

I have been missing the "What's new in Gutenberg?" posts on the Make Core blog lately, as I found this always to be helpful when checking what just got merged. So I decided to ask if any help is needed and how to make these, and did one this past weekend: make.wordpress.org/core/2025/02...

make.wordpress.orgWhat’s new in Gutenberg 20.1 and 20.2?This time, due to the smaller sizes of the releases, this post contains information for both the 20.1 (22 January) and 20.2 (5 February) releases. “What’s new in Gutenberg…” posts (labeled with the…

Building software is like playing an open-world RPG.🎮 The main quest is shipping features. The side quests are fixing debt, improving performance and tooling. Ignore them, progress slows. Obsess over them, you forget the goal. Balance is key. Here’s how I approach it ⬇️ riad.blog/2025/02/07/m...

Aaron is another contributor you could also sponsor and help keep the WordPress project moving along. His work is tireless, and he is truly amazing. He does so much unseen, with a heart of open source. Please consider supporting him this year if you can. Having people like him contributing matters.

This is so spot on. Two things: 1. Being focused on producing output the fastest way possible means that you will never prioritize "going deep" 2. Going deep (and down the rabbit hole) is how you learn more: but you need to balance it. Figure out how to do both: it's tricky!

Fun fact: If someone quotes a post of yours in a way that is unwelcome (as is commonplace on Twitter/X) there is a tool to combat the unwanted attention. Simply click the three dot menu on the quote post & click "Detach quote". This removes your post from their quote post. Useful to know, do share!

❓If you had a magic wand, what quick win / feature / enhancement / bug fix would you want to see implemented in Gutenberg / WordPress ? (Not asking about huge projects / features)

Can also vouch that spending time answering support questions is valuable as well (Github, Discord), etc: - Gives you practice answering - Forces you to learn more about lib implementation and usage - Definitely gets you noticed by the maintainers :)

TIL: Another meaning for BFF abbreviation - back-end for front-end. I initially read it as "best friends forever-ey layer"; that was confusing.

it’s super inefficient for a bunch of things. we need to be able to move some processing on the server but right now the only “server” part we have is the API (which is supposed to be usable by other clients so more difficult to evolve). really need a BFF-ey layer that’s client-specific.

Gonna try my luck: I'm looking for someone to do advanced technical support for my Search & Filter plugin. Someone who can do a bit of coding and debugging (PHP hooks for ex), write bug reports etc... No job listing up yet. 3-4 hrs per day. Let me know if you know anyone, RT for reach!

This thread here actually reminded me of something else that has been staring in my mind for a while. And that is how Extensibility in WordPress Core used to drive a lot of contribution opportunities where it becomes harder and harder to use those same approaches. fabian-kaegy.com/wordpress-ex...
