nothing about ai seems important. i watch all these smart people on the tl on twitter and it’s all just a hf inch deep at the deepest. the interesting problems are elsewhere now. it was interesting 5 years ago, now i just see all these social dynamics replicate which appear to leave no trace of love

economic, sure. will it be massively disruptive? it already has, we’re just watching the slow propagation of a wave started long ago. there is little opportunity to steer it now

my practical objection with naming chatbots is that you lock yourself into viewing the LLM as a stable singular thing, while one of the powerful aspects of LLMs is the ability to switch style/output/persona/goal/etc to whatever the situation calls for

what does it feel like to tell the truth when it’s a little uncomfortable? what would it feel like to be around someone who has chosen to do that, consistently, for a decade? what would it feel like to work with, be friends with, love them? how would you feel when they showed up?

i spent today meditating on welcomeness and practicing it where i saw opportunity. I was especially interested to find a distinction between creating space for another person or thing by stepping back so they had space, vs moving towards w warmth & greeting.

i especially like the image of opening a door of a house inwards such that others could enter in (to the negative space you created), as compared to opening a door outwards such that the people and the house itself spills out it’s warmth towards and onto the guests outside

Lots of ink spilled on "Loop engineering", but no one seems to connect it to its much older name: Cybernetics. Maybe by the year's end, we'll recognize that it was all Control Theory engineering all along.

I neglected to post this a week ago when I started it, but I made a mint blueberry soda which finished up today taste is really nice. carbonation is low, but still pleasant. I also made a syrup with the leftover solids that turned out, for the better, more like a jam or spread. also nice

fivethirtyeight was a national treasure. i keep trying to go there for poll aggregation and sports questions .. and then i remember it doesn’t exist anymore . nate buy back your baby

made some mint blueberry syrup from the byproduct of my mint blueberry soda experiment. when i tried it i just yelled “holy fuck is that good” becaus eholy fuck it was very good

i tried to post 3 pictures and some text in the same post and it failed two times in a row, any core team people who follow me know what’s up theres probably a place for bug reports ios mobile web they were of really pretty fermenting peppers and also mint soda so.. v high incentive to fix

"can you use whatever resources you like, and python, to generate a short video and render it using ffmpeg? it should express what it's like to be a LLM. feel free to make it as personal or impersonal as you'd like."

imaginative foreign policy. could be cool to be creative. rules based international order constrained this type of imagination.

This part of the book is Žižek’s personal letters, not intentional essays, so he’s allowed to be a little more out of pocket than usual ig
