Don't let billionaires convince you slop is the future. They're used to managing & directing, not making things themselves. Of course they can't see the difference. They don't understand your love for the craft. Keep making personal, beautiful games. You've got my support 💖

The main way in which AI has negatively impacted games industry jobs is not through actual automation of those jobs or even untrue claims about automation. It's by making capital unavailable because it's tied up in AI investments while also destroying the consumer base for video game hardware.

I would’ve liked to see a policy that just banned “AI” outright and didn’t include the “significant pieces of code”/“menial tasks” exception, but this is still a very good step forward and close to the strictest policy that can be reasonably enforced in an open-source project in 2026!

Godot Engine@godotengine.org

For years we have been overwhelmed by the volume of code contributions we have to review, especially from new contributors. AI has made the problem much worse. That's why we are taking steps to reduce the burden on maintainers while still welcoming new contributors: godotengine.org/article/cont...

For any stuff I release or make for other people, I’m still probably going to stick with 4.6, because of my own personal line for where I’m comfortable putting the “no AI” label on things (which I realize is stricter than is “reasonable” in the current climate).

Godot is an awesome project, and I do really like this policy, which is still infinitely better than where I see other engines like Unreal heading at the moment!

I do respect Godot’s position on this… they’re in a difficult position, with the state of everything and the sheer amount of people submitting code “written” by LLMs. All the same, I think I’m probably going to be version-locking Godot in any of my own projects to an earlier release now.

I see some concerns raised about Godot's policy on contributions using AI. TL;DR: Godot isn't vibe-coded. As a whole, the Godot foundation and maintainers are fairly critical of AI usage, and don't make nor accept vibe-coded contributions. Godot doesn't include AI features nor intends to add any.

Obviously in the current environment, it’s impossible to be a complete no-“AI” purist. Otherwise I couldn’t even use the Linux kernel anymore, with how widespread this terrible machine has become, and holding stuff like that back to an old version opens up actual security problems.

But for things where I don’t need every new feature that comes out, like Unreal, Godot, Trenchbroom, etc? It may make it a bit harder to work on some things, keeping these to an old version, but that’s something I’m personally OK with.

My objections to “AI” have less to do with code quality, and everything to do with ethics. I believe these tools to be unethical in their entirety, for multiple reasons, and therefore wherever I have a choice, I don’t use software built with them at all.

Anyway I'm just going to say it outright: if you're an indie dev using AI for coding, above and beyond any other objections, what you're telling me is that you have no solidarity with anyone else in games. Not artists, not writers, not other coders. You beleive in personal convenience at all costs.

Just finished some adjustments to my little personal webpage. No more iframes, no more dependencies on Google or other external sites, no more unnecessary cookies or tracking. 🙂 Up next: making separate pages for some projects and adding a "links" page. #webdev #indieweb

I may create things that aren’t the most polished, or are unfinished, possibly even just absolute garbage… …but they’ll be MY absolute garbage, from my imperfect human brain and imagination, not from some slop machine built from an amalgamation of other people’s work.

This is insanely bad for anyone doing game development. Who the hell knows what Gaming Copilot is doing with your screen captures, but it almost certainly isn't compliant with your NDA.

If you're using Windows 11, Microsoft is now surveilling you in a new way. This may already be turned on on your computer, and you would not be notified; it activates whenever they detect you are in a "game", which in my experience Microsoft often false-positives on doublepulsar.com/microsoft-bu...

Thinking of experimenting with running my own tiny Mastodon / ActivityPub instance… I miss when the Internet was a web of little personal sites, forums, and communities instead of everyone being on a few big sites, waiting for the heads of the new big site to screw everything up again.

Gonna go even further: don't refer to it as "consuming media" when doing this. You aren't a consumer - it's not a product. You read books. You look at art. You watch movies and/or videos. Be careful about word choice. Reject "consume" and REJECT "CONTENT." IT IS ART. YOU ARE ENGAGING WITH ART.

kieu @ we must not stop living@leslekieuart.bsky.social

I'm being so real right now, learn how to engage in media as art and not a reflection of your own real life morals. consume things that make you uncomfortable and understand why it makes you uncomfortable. Don't just base yours and others morals standings on the media you consume.

All I’m going to say about recent happenings is that the people in charge of my government continue to work overtime to convince me that I am a horrible person and the reason for everything bad that is happening. Feels real welcoming

Godot has become a viable game engine Blender has become a viable 3D modelling AND animation tool SteamDeck is now a fantastic "mobile" Desktop platform AAA is shrinking / abandoning territory, ceding more genres to indie Basically, (funding sitch aside) indie gamedev is seriously looking up!

Please give me an unironic list of things that have gotten better over the last ten years because I’m spiraling. I’ll start: you can buy an enormous TV from Costco for like $100 bucks now.

I don't get how people don't realize that a technology that replaces junior and entry level positions in a field destroys that field. There's no skipping steps. You have to be a junior before you can be a senior, and if you don't have senior people, you don't have a field.

Remember, kids: A real big goal of "AI" is to entirely sever capital from labor, and no, there will be no universal basic income, you can all just starve and die, thanks www.axios.com/2025/08/26/a...

"I asked chatgpt" "I asked grok" well I asked Achenar from the best-selling point&click adventure game Myst and he told me to bring him the blue pages and NOT to touch the red ones

I honestly thought this was a bit when reading it. Apparently it’s not… Giving these tools the ability to output natural language was a mistake, since it causes people without the appropriate knowledge level to still believe the output of these tools, because “it sounds like it knows what’s right.”

Also, a reminder about LLMs/“AI” tools for anyone who needs it: They cannot “lie”. They do not “hallucinate”. Both of these would require that the tool has any concept at all of what “truth” and “reality” are.

I am so, so very tired of all of this... but I continue to exist. 🟥🟪🟦

Boise State Public Radio is at risk of losing nearly 20% of our annual budget. The rescission package sent to Congress by President Trump has now been released to the floor by the House Rules Committee and a vote is expected soon, possibly this week.
