Who decided a ferry to Ireland was a good idea... my ferry was cancelled, so running late we'll see if I make it in one piece. Got some spare trainers as my current pair got a very soggy on my travels through Anglesey woodlands yesterday (got red squirrels though, so what's a ~bit~ lot of rain?)

Apropos of nothing, if you're considering switching from a recently deprecated browser and want to try Firefox, I just landed `Copy Tab URL` in nightly - it's not bound by default but a quick visit to `about:keyboard` will let you set it, and also take a glance at the other neat shortcuts we have.

I just shipped CSS Custom Highlight Universal Selector! Coming in Chrome 158. With ::highlight(*), you can write a shared rule that applies to every custom highlight instead of repeating the same styles for each name. See the Blog post: blog.seokho.dev/development/...

blog.seokho.devCustom Highlight Universal Selector ::highlight(*)I recently added a universal selector for CSS custom highlights, ::highlight(*), to the relevant CSS Specifications (the bulk of it is actually in CSS Pseudos not CSS Custom Highlights) and implemente...

Very interested to hear people's thoughts on this, I've got a chrome prototype but keep struggling to think of what the actual defaults should be. Come give your ideas! Yes the legend is fair game as well as the fieldset.

What do you want the new default styling to be for HTML fieldset? Here’s what it’s been forever — a box around things, with the legend text placed over the middle of the line at the top left. (See developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/W... for more.)

Trying to set up a computer with a keyboard and Bluetooth mouse should not be as hard as it is. Make your damn OSs work without a mouse by default 😭

Dark mode. Do the websites & web apps made by your team support dark mode? If not, why not? What do you want to know most to help empower your team to support it?! What’s the blocker? What is confusing or hard about dark mode? #css #web #development #design

Authentication on the web is such a mess and it's such an own goal. Why do I have 3 different popups rendering next to my inputs just because I have a password manager installed.

We desperately need an extension API to integrate extension autofill with browser autofill, and another to integrate into the various credential management APIs. Some platforms allow credential managers to integrate for some credential types but passwords are awful everywhere it seems.

Do you use the HTML `<meter>` element? If so when do you use it, and what kinda styling do you use? If you don't use it, are there use cases where you would but don't for some reason? If so what are those reasons.

Do you make websites? What do you wish <select> listbox did? Or didn’t do? This is the HTML. Currently, it automatically creates a listbox with 4 options showing. <select id="foobar" multiple> If you want 6 items showing, you write <select id="foobar" multiple item="6">. What should it be?

It looks like Google is finally working on a way to support third-party browsers being able to install proper APKs for web apps. This is generally something that only Chrome can do currently. There's very little public documentation and it still seems quite early, but there's a new WebAppManager API

Importantly, when you click the app icon it loads in the app that requested the installation. Seems the app needs to implement the a CustomTabsService for the launching to work. All of this is a good step in the right direction but it's pretty rough around the edges right now.

There's no nice screenshots in the install UI unlike Chrome's improved install flow. The app icon also doesn't include any shortcuts included in your manifest file (another feature Chrome supports). It also means that browsers are somewhat at the mercy of Google to support new manifest features.

I (mostly AI tbf) generated a test app for me. You provide the manifest URL, to a simple API call and it starts the install flow. You do get a security check warning (might be my security settings) but click through and you get a proper APK that shows up in your launcher properly.

[This is not an endorsement of Jeremy or Apple's opinion] The TAG invited Jeremy to talk about web installs at our F2F last week, as a rep for devs. It's the 1st time (in my time) that we've invited a dev to get their direct input into standards work & the consensus was that we should do it more!

Importing and exporting passkeys and passwords is now available on Android. This resolves the security risks of legacy plaintext CSV exports and the inability to migrate passkeys across providers through secure, OS-level peer-to-peer data transfer.

On Friday I finally got down to Eastleach to see the Long-Tailed Shrike that had been resident this summer. Then on Saturday despite being very wet and windy, and low tide I managed to find the Baird's Sandpiper near Swansea. 20 lifers for the year. 3 for the week! #BirdingWales

Looks like heading to Eastleach Friday was a good idea because the bird seems to have headed off a day later. Long Tailed Shrikes are supposed to be in Asia so not sure where this one will end up.

This evening I learned (remembered) that Chromium and WebKit don't have a pseudo for the fill/progress part of a range input. Presumably they just decided to do that at paint time because reasons?

Nice lunch time surprise, a juvenile white-winged black tern showed up in Cardiff Bay. My 18th lifer of 2026! #BirdingWales

Why is it not the law that if I click a link in your app it just opens in my damn browser. Never has an in-app browser done anything useful.

Show me who is making good or popular use of closed shadow roots, please? Like, not a thing on your website or a thing you've personally used once or twice, but something in broad use

Some (juvenile?) red squirrels I encountered on a recent trip to Brownsea island. As often is the case we found them about 10 minutes before the last boat of the day.

Why do companies (Google) insist on randomly discontinuing functionality from their software?? I've been using Google drive on my Mac to sync photos from an SD card to Google photos for years now. But nope not anymore now I have to use their sites much jankier capability instead.

Am I the only one who thinks, actually the alert system should be used for something more useful than "you're about to die lol"? Sure it's common sense that the country is dry and fire is bad, but people are still using BBQs and camping stoves and smoking cigarettes so it's clearly not so common. 🤷🏻‍♂️

The Welsh system of sending what is in essence gibberish (Welsh is a minority language and these are time sensitive) minutes before the English is bad I agree with that, but everyone is hating on the alert in general?

BIG NEWS: Bocoup is now Igalia! The two worker co-ops have agreed to join forces, with several members of Bocoup coming aboard at Igalia, along with the brand assets and web site. More details in our official announcement: www.igalia.com/2026/Joining...

Osprey seen flying over near Wareham (by the river piddle). Can't read a ring or see if one exists, but the left wing's primaries look quite distinctive.

I somehow only just realised that if you hover a label it matches `:hover` on the associated form control... Is this common knowledge? I feel like it's probably one of those things that I actually already did know and have just forgotten.

Interestingly it doesn't forward mouse events like mouseover (other than click "obviously"). But it does apply `:active` and `:hover` (interestingly it doesn't do this for :focus)
