Understanding the potential impact of offshore renewables on breeding birds is key to mitigating any negative impacts That’s why for the last 4yrs the RSPB have recorded data on Guillemot and Razorbill at South Stack RSPB Reserve to create a baseline before tidal energy deployment in the area

Can we use vomit as a time machine? Snow petrel stomach oil piles up at nests for millennia, recording Antarctica's past, but only if we know what birds eat today. Our new paper led by @zhongxuanli.bsky.social provides a key step to reading those archives doi.org/10.3354/meps... #OceanSky 🦑🦉🌊🧪

Nature can't recover on paper. The UK's goal to protect and effectively manage 30% of land & sea for nature by 2030 isn't about colouring in 30% of a map. A new UK Govt report gets that right: protected areas only count if they're properly managed, monitored and funded.

Great news for nature! The Scottish Government has refused plans for a golf course on Coul Links that would have irreparably damaged this precious place.  Thank you to the tens of thousands of you who spoke up to save Coul Links. Your voices made a difference.

Today, The Scottish Government announced that they have REFUSED plans to develop a golf course at Coul Links in Sutherland. This fragile landscape is home to some of our rarest and most threatened wildlife, so this a huge win for nature! 1/3

Non-breeding birds form a large proportion of #seabird populations, yet they are often overlooked in research & difficult to account for in environmental assessments. A new #OWSMRF report highlights why this matters & how we can close evidence gaps 👇 jncc.gov.uk/news/new-rep... 🧵

It will be 2040 before the Grassholm gannet colony is expected to recover from the effects of HPAI #birdflu (even assuming it isn't hit again by the disease or other threats). #BirdingWales

Our new research shows that HPAI increased Northern Gannet mortality by a factor of ~6 and ~4 at two of the world’s largest colonies. We predict this impact will take almost two decades to recover from. #biologicalconservation #seabirds #hpai Full paper: doi.org/10.1016/j.biocon.2026.111887
