So... Turns out that MVave have issued their own firmware update, v16. It adds quite a bit, but most notably, it jacks up the polyphony from 12 voices to a whopping 20! Let's see the big kids do that with a tiny little patch... This is a wild time to be a beginner synth nerd...

I like how YouTube still sends me "creator emails" despite the fact that I haven't created anything specifically for the platform ever since they demonetized me (along with every other sub-1K channel) in 2018. Not that I was getting paid much, but still...

I got my OG FM-1 (black) just as the Firmwarepocalypse started. I got my SMK-37 (black keys) before it experienced its own firmware shenanigans. The Donner is just another SMK rebranded; It and the grey FM-1 arrived yesterday. The revolution is here, and for under $450 @eliotetc.bsky.social

The fun never stops: Not long after I get the expected "Your Starrykey 37 has shipped" notification, I got a second one: "Hey, your other FM-1 will be there tomorrow, too!" Nice. The plan for right now is to leave the SK-37 on the default firmware and map it to the other three units...

Glancing around Amazon, and it seems the FM-1 is becoming a little harder to find in short order. Glad I ordered my second unit when I did, it's been rather the wait already. Foresight, though, has has given me a sort of FM-1+ in the form of an SMK-37...

Part of me gets using hand gestures to control certain automated functions in modern PTZ cameras. But practical me watches humans be the animated creatures they are, constantly gesturing and completely wiping out an hour of setup by activating undesired automated functions. AI now disabled. Sheesh.

This sounds truly horrifying, and makes me kinda glad I never really "made it" as a content creator. The level of anonymity we have with Green Jello - the ability to slip back into obscurity with zero effort after a show - really is a blessing...

The big kids don't move THIS fast... In just under a month, the FM-1 and its siblings have gone from budget curiosity to covering nearly the entire spectrum of synth possibilities. I chose an amazing time to jump into the quagmire - just as it loosened up into a free-flowing river...

So, the FM-1, yeah? Turns out this thing is rather infinitely hackable - Just waiting for someone to port DOOM to it, if I'm being honest... But in the interest of being honest, there's so much custom firmware out there for these things that I've gone and ordered a second one... #Synth #Nerd
